The no-trade clause is the really important consideration here. Phillips is an Atlanta-area native, so this may be one of the only destinations he'd sign off on. This should give the Braves a ton of leverage, and I wouldn't want to see them pay for any more than $5m of his salary. On the flip side, do we want to acquire a rental that we can't flip? One that may be disgruntled if we feel ready to transition 2B to Albies during the Summer?
Not sure there would be much harm in trading for him IF you could do it for "nothing". As in, Jace for Phillips and half of his salary paid.
Play Phillips every day at 2B this season so you can stagger Swanson and Albies' service-time clocks, then have Ozzie ready to step in next April. Jace would give them a young, controllable super-utility guy who would be a good platoon partner for several of their other young guys, and they wouldn't have to worry about distractions when Phillips eventually *itches because he's no longer a regular there.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
I brought him up before. I was thinking maybe you get him as a salary dump. Before we spent big on pitchers I was thinking maybe the Reds would give us a prospect to take him.
Maybe he has a good year and you flip him. Just looking to hold down 2b until the deadline then bring up albies
I don't like giving up a top 30 guy for him.
Jace plus rod might actually be pretty good

Are you referring to this being the package to acquire Phillips? If so, there's no way they are trading a player they just signed before he ever steps foot on the field in a Braves uniform. You'd lose all future trust in free agents.
"Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon"
I'd be ok with it if we didn't give up much. It's not like we'd need him to do a ton for us - he was hitting cleanup in Cinci last year I think. For us he'd be what, 6th or 7th? I'd probably do Jace for him, but I'm also certainly fine just rocking with a Jace/SRod platoon too.
Why is that even a story? This was in November!

I don't want him at all! Terrible offensively and a bad influence in the clubhouse...NO THANKS
Apparently the Phillips trade centered around Matt Kemp going to the Reds... hmmmm. Was a Fansided report
If your handle indicates where you live, then your post makes sense only if it comes from someone who never attends a game. The whole "so what if we lose" mantra is for fans who treat this like fantasy baseball. If you actually invest in the team, you want Kemp right where he is -- and hope he reports in shape.

This is the only article I found that linked Kemp to a Phillips trade. There are some factual mistakes in the article that undermine its credibility.
Ventura's Stolen Bases
I guess we would have played Mallex where Kemp was? Sounds like a possible equal exchange of value with more downside on our side since Phillips gets more defensive chances than Kemp.
