I wouldn’t say given up, I think he can contribute in the future for sure but I think he’s destined for the BP based on all the other pitcher’s talent coming up the system

Joe Simpson understands the significance of spin rate, but doesn't understand the need to quantify it... That basically means he hates the advanced stat because its an advanced stat, even though he understands that it is significant. Lol just.... lol

Lane is worse than kemp in LF... well except he can actually run some. Kemp just can't get to balls; Lane looks like a drunk antelope

How did Fried look from people who got a chance to watch? Statline looks okay but I would like to see more Ks.

Some of those jams were of his own making, but a few were not. Defense was less than stellar tonight.

considering it had been 9 days since he last pitched I thought Fried looked OK. I still like his curve ball and sure seemed to be a lot of hitters not squaring up anything.

I'm halfway with Joe on this one. Spin rate really isn't an advanced stat. It's a refined measurement of pitch quality that contributes to performance that is measured statistically. I think the naked eye can discern who has a lot of spin rate and who doesn't and how that affects a player's performance. Great spin rate (or great velocity) really doesn't matter if the guy can't find the strike zone or throw quality strikes within the strike zone. But I'm not going to poo-poo the information. It can help fans understand the game better and answers a lot of "why" questions.

All this said, I want to make it clear that I really respect the work that a lot of the stat types on the board bring to the table and the posters themselves (thewupk, enscheff, etc.). Some of it I buy and some of it I don't, but it always makes me think.
