    ESPN Layoffs

Ed Werder, Dana O'Neill and at least a couple hockey reporters are gone from the network. Could be 100 layoffs at ESPN today.

Add John Buccigross to the list

Brett McMurphy and Danny Kanell among those as well. Unreal.

I suspect Stark will be one of the first to be hired by someone.

ESPN has been a dump for years now. Aside from live sports they are unwatchable.

Good, ESPN is ****. Watched very little in the last 10 years. Large part of the reason I quit was Skip Bayless. Won't even go back now that he is gone.

ESPN needs to invest a lot of interest in MLS and other soccer leagues. They need more live sports less talk for 20 minutes about a 1 minute NBA story.

Agree with the above remarks of less talk. Watching Skip Bayless or Steven A is too reminiscent of cable "news". More live sports would be welcome.

And that's how ESPN would lose more money. The MLS tv Ratings are horrible.

Moral of the story seems to be if you want to protect your job in this industry, ditch actual reporting and go heavy on the hot takes.

Except no. With little advertising MLS draws 300K viewers on ESPN. While not a stunning number, that's with again, with little advertising.

What you don't realize is that showing something on ESPN builds in a minimum base. With a solid commitment ESPN can greatly grow said base. How many people watch ****ing Poker or Bowling? Now imagine putting that with a real sport.

300k viewers on espn for a world wide sport is pathetic. It's the most played sport in America. Their 30 for 30 documentaries crush mls in ratings.

Fox sports 1 seems to be doing alright. ESPN is really a 24/7 sports cable news network. With the advent of mobile; cable news like newspapers and weekly news magazines are worthless. Why tune in to espn to watch a play or get a score when you can watch it anytime you want on your mobile device.

Their 30 for 30 kill pretty much everything but NFL and MLB.

Again, MLS has little advertising on ESPN and goes in mediocre slots and still draws fine. If they advertised and pushed it like they do some other things it should be able to push closer to the 1M point.

Werder, Stark, and Katz were all very surprising. I too fall in the category of those that watch very little ESPN aside from live sports (watching the draft on ESPN as I type this). Can't stand the "embrace debate" type of shows. PTI used to be worth a watch, but that hasn't been something I've tuned into for quite awhile.
