    Mets want Vizcaino

"Instead of trading Jay Bruce for a reliever, I'm hearing from MLB sources that Sandy Alderson's new plan may be to try and trade prospects for another team's low-cost reliever, who has experience pitching in high-leverage situations...

I've been told the Mets should be circling back with the Rays, Rangers and Padres, all of whom are open t othis type of deal. Similarly, insiders say to keep an eye on Braves 26-year-old RHP Arodys Vizcaino, who Atlanta is open to dealing for prospects, according to teams that have talked with them this this winter.

Vizcaino served as their closer through the first half of last season. He had a 2.75 ERA, 10 saves, and struck out 47 batters in 36 innings, but later lost his job to Jim Johnson in the second half of the year after struggling with shoulder and oblique injuries.

It's hard to imagine the Braves trading Vizcaino to the Mets. Similarly, knowing that Vizcaino will warrant giving up significant prospects, I suspect Alderson would be equally reluctant to deal that level talent to a division rival.

Nevertheless, this is very much the type of pitcher I think he's hoping to land..."

So, the Mets want him but they don't want to trade for him. The Braves would deal him for quality prospects, but would not want to send him to the Mets?

Solution: three-team trade that can incorporate Recker and perhaps they can shake loose another Top 100 guy.

Don't know what we would realistically get from them. I don't like their farm system much. They're obviously not giving up Rosario, and I don't think Smith would help us much, so what would it be - Dunn + Nimmo? Is that too much, and/or would you take it?

I have absolutely no problem dealing Viz to the Mets. We have an over abundance of bullpen arms with more on the way.

However, I see no chance of the Mets offering us the prospects it would take to get him. There's a difference between trading for KJ midseason and acquiring a 26 year old flame thrower with late inning experience.

I like the Szapucki kid, too, but he only has 54 pro innings.

They would likely rather pay us the offseason price on a guy like Viz, than what it would take at the deadline. The price for high leverage arms gets STEEP at the trade deadline. It is going to hurt, regardless.

Ok, but you're basically just acquiring him as a trade piece that you'll have to turn around and trade somewhere else within the next year. There just doesn't seem to be much point in that.

If the Braves could get Nimmo and Dunn for him, they should be all over it. I'd even do it for just Nimmo, but that's just me. I doubt the Mets pony up, though.

We'd have to take Smith back even if it means turning around and trading him again. A lot of teams could use a 1b prospect like that. I'd rather take the best player available rather than take a lesser player for need.

Nimmo is the best player available right now... Smith may have the most upside, but Nimmo has shown it at the upper levels and briefly at the MLB level. He should develop more power and should always be a high average hitter. Dunn also may have more upside than Smith although its hard to compare pitchers and power hitters.

Yeah, I didn't realize just how good Nimmo had been last year. We likely wouldn't be able to pry him from NY for Vizcaino by himself.

How do you figure? .964 OPS in AAA just screams 4th OFer I guess
