Yeah. Intensity of effort was probably pretty high in those.

The science is not concrete on what causes pitchers injuries. With absolutely no basis behind this opinion i feel it's over use in the developmental years 12-16 as opposed to innings logged later on in life. It's better to err on the side of caution so I see where you are going with it.

[QUOTE=thethe;374859]The science is not concrete on what causes pitchers injuries. /QUOTE]

With virtually all the things we discuss and debate about around here, we are operating in the realm of probabilities rather than certainties. It is a fact that pitchers in their late teens and early 20s have a higher risk of injury after they experience a big increase in the work load. Nothing "concrete," whatever that means. But the risk or probability of injury goes up by a non-trivial amount.

There's no real way to know, but he also pitched for the Canadian junior national team that spring.

How would we use him? Just giving markakis and kemp days off? Pagan has had a negative dWAR the last 6 seasons, so he's not much of a defensive replacement for kemp

Be a true back up CF for when Ender pulls a hammy. He would be better than Neck and Kemp even though he is not elite defensively. And he is a better bat than Jace, Chase, Bonnie.

    Definetely agree with last sentence. Here's pagan's dWAR (BR) last 2 years... '16 = -1.2, '15 = -1.9. For reference, here's kemp's... '16 = -1.5, '15 = -1.1

Baseball ref splits out partial seasons automatically in their WAR page. The -1.5 and -1.1 for Kemp is what he did in 2016 with the Braves and Padres. He's actually at -2.6 for 2016 and -2.4 for 2015.

Good catch. The point remains though... pagan is a pretty bad defender. Hell, markakis was 0.3 in dWAR last season

Yeah. I don't like the way bref does that. It's gotten me a couple of times. And I would agree for the most part. If I'm wanting a 4th OF to be a defensive upgrade then Pagan would not really be my 1st choice. The positive with them is there is a good chance he could be a decent bench bat. Certainly better than what we have now.

Probably Drew Harrington in A+, too. I'm interested to hear Coppy talk about the Allard/Soroka moves. Both will be 19 years old all season. Not really sure the need to rush them like that.

When your job hinges on your decision to base the rebuild around pitching, suddenly there is plenty of reason to rush these pitchers.

    Chapman outrighted.

Roe and Hernandez will both make the team if we go with 8 relievers.

I like Roe. His pure stuff is good. Just needs to harness it.
