Or maybe he could just answer a simple question and stop wasting everyone's time.

It's not like he said "yeah, I'll take cheerleading questions from you, and football questions from the men. Next question please"

My estimation of the value of a college degree from a prestigious university continues to decline sharply.

He made a stupid, idiotic, irrelevant comment first and then he answered the question. So because he made that stupid comment, everyone got outraged. And then the people who weren't outraged got outraged at the outrage. And then the first people who were outraged were outraged at people getting outraged over them being outraged. It's the same **** every time. Lost in all this is the fact that he made a ridiculous comment and all he had to do was answer a question and move on.

Obviously, answering the question politically correctly is the only course of action.

I think I've made the point. Just answer the question. It's a press conference. People aren't there to hear you tell funny jokes or make an irrelevant statement that you think is funny. What he said added nothing of value. Do I think he should be crucified? No. Do I understand a company that primarily markets toward women not wanting to do a sponsorship with him? Yeah.

The most troubling thing about the Cam Newton gaffe to me (and the anthem protests for that matter) is that we as a nation care so much about something said by an athlete. I really just don't understand it, I don't understand why it's reported, I honestly don't know why we have 37 microphones in their face at the end of every game. What is anyone really going to learn from it?

Have you ever found yourself watching the Braves, other sports, and wondered why did he do that? What was the thinking there? What's their strategy? Etc.

There are 37 microphones in the face because people eat this stuff up and they're clicking on the articles.

I guess I phrased that poorly. I am aware of the reason and the market forces that drive sports journalism. I just don't understand the mindset of adults hanging on every word and sound byte from guys who play a game for a living. I've also never asked for an autograph or enjoyed a concert more than the CD, so I recognize that I'm the weird one.

I'm in general agreement there. I think it's fine if people want to use their platform however they choose. But I'm not going to wait on them to say something before I form my own opinion on things.

Farewell, Valedictorian: High Schools Drop Tradition of Naming Top Student
It’s getting lonely at the top of the class in high school—or very crowded—as more schools alter or do away with the traditional role of valedictorian. While some schools no longer hail a single student with the best grade-point average, others are granting the distinction to anyone who gets at least a 4.0 GPA. And that is increasingly common as certain honors, or advanced-level classes, tend to grant higher than a 4.0 for an A.

At least half of U.S. states have schools that have stopped naming valedictorians, or now name multiple, to head off what school officials say has become unhealthy competition among students.
    ....
Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Va., had 178 valedictorians last school year, or 1 in every 3 graduates. Valedictorians are those who achieved at least a 4.0 grade-point average. Every valedictorian is ranked No. 1 in the class.

Murfreesboro, Tenn.’s Central Magnet School had a record-breaking 48 valedictorians last school year, a quarter of its graduating class. Awardees achieve the highest grade point average, take a minimum of 12 higher-level courses and meet state requirements to graduate with honors and distinction.
    ....
More schools also no longer calculate numerical rankings for students—information still used by some colleges—out of fear that students missing higher rankings by a few points could be hurt in the college-acceptance process, or passed over for scholarships.

I'd say that's pretty silly, but how useful is the concept of a valedictorian anyway?

Maybe I'm just getting too apathetic about such things, but I've seen firsthand the ridiculous nature of it and how things get out of hand. But yeah, 48 "valedictorians" is damn stupid.

I'm still confused why cam is being called a sexist. Why do we get to assume what someone's inner feelings are?
