Is anyone even mad about this deal? I didn't read every post in this thread, but it seems like people are indifferent at worst.

There are people mad about it on Twitter and while no one is mad here, I think people who aren't fans of this deal are crazy. There's no reason to be out celebrating in the street but being indifferent to this deal makes no sense.

The fantasy baseball people are pissed. Makes no sense to be upset about any part of this deal.

I don't know why anyone would be upset. If not for the car accident surely this trade does not happen, but it did. We gave up pretty much nothing and are paying nothing to speak of for a former all-star 2b. Yes Albies is in waiting, but he ended up last year with a significant injury, we do not know how he will progress and how long it takes for him to be back to normal. This only makes sure that we give him the time for a full recovery and we will move him to the big club when that happens. If Albies is ready the only thing bad is we would owe $500k to Phillips if we trade him. No big deal, yet we have an established 2b going into the season.

I don't hate the move because if he bounces back he could probably be sold off for more than we gave up. But it seems like this was more of a finally catching the White Whale kind of thing. Seems like we've been trying to trade for Phillips for like 5 years.

My post was meant to be funny, if that's what had you worked up. The 1:1 BB/K ratio was a dead giveaway.

Remember The Old Man and the Sea? He finally gets the giant fish to shore - he wins - but it's been devoured by various sea creatures on the way in and almost killed the fisherman. It's like that.

Is "fantasy baseball people" the new dog whistling term for statheads or something? I've seen a bunch more people complaining about fantasy baseball this offseason and I can't figure out what they're upset about.

He's out of a bad situation. In a contract year.

I do wonder if this shows they plan to keep albies down longer. I don't see bp playing multiple spots or sitting on the bench well

which is odd as the majority of fantasy baseball leagues use the old traditional stats.....

I thought maybe the fantasy baseball people were mad cuz he left great american ballpark and thus his stats might go down or something.....

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad deal -- but I fail to see the point -- I don't think we are competing this year, we don't have the opportunity to flip him at the deadline, he's a FA after this season and we have Jace/Albies (both younger guys that should get at bats in a season like this).

If we trade for Phillips I would want either his No-Trade to go away, or pick up a significant chunk of his salary to get something back with him.

    I don't see the point.
If the Reds were willing to trade him for 1 million salary offset why do you think they'd have included an asset rather than just cut him?

If he plays well, the braves will have a veteran with no contract to dangle at deadline which should net some kind of modest asset.

Not a bad deal, with some potential upside. It's not like Phillips will be under any pressure to be a superstar here, so perhaps some proper lineup placement will do him some good.

Now, we just need some games to talk about! Bring on spring!!

I picked up on that. My post wasn't referring to you. More to people disappointed we didn't trade for some stud 2B.

From what I hear, the Braves were the only team that had any interest in Phillips whatsoever

From what we gave up, I would have guessed that.
