In his chat, he says he sees Moniak and Acuna as essentially the same caliber player. Another thing to keep in mind when thinking about the Braves hitters in the system. There may be more there than people think based on the international signings.

I agree with this. I have been down on the drafting of mostly pitchers but the international hitters are there and coming on strong.

    Surprised how Sims has fallen.

Great notes on everyone. His synopsis of Dustin Peterson is how I imagine him. But if Peterson has an Ethier comp, that would be a pretty good player.

Where did you see an Ethier comp to DPete?

Besides batting from opposite sides of the plate, Ethier produced 4 seasons with a WAR of ~3.5, a couple more ~2.5 WAR seasons, and a career .822 OPS.

If DPete was projected to have that type of career he would be a FV 60-65 guy and would rank up there with Swanson and Albies.

yeah.. I guess I see Sims as a better RP than he does. I agree he won't be a starter. His time has passed IMO.. he will start in AAA, but needs to be on a short lease.

I see. Looks like a stat line scouting metric. That's a bit of encouraging data though for sure.

Newcomb's comp is Freddie Garcia, a LHer whose hardest FB since 2008 was 92.3 MPH.

Soroka's comp is Carlos Zambrano, two pitchers that couldn't be any more different.

Albies comp is Rickie Weeks, a guy who hit 20+ HRs in a season 3 times.

Makes me a little dubious about these comps, to say the least.

Also going on the low likelihood of this being a serious question, Longenhagen said Ventura has put on a lot of weight since coming stateside in his chat.

I took it like he's not fat, more like an average size now rather than wiry like he used to be.

Agreed. But he is going to be 40 man material and needs to have a role. Start him for now but if he doesn't improve move him to closer type role to see if he takes.

These were terrific write-ups. I think his approach to Fried was very logical -- impressed over his 2016 season, but cautiously optimistic. I'll be really interested to see where everyone moves next year.

I'm with you guys on Gohara. I can't believe how high a lot of these rankings are on him. I really liked Mallex, but it's hard to believe we got a guy with this much promise for just Mallex. I'm PUMPED!

    Go Bravos!

The most interesting comp to me was Soroka to Derek Lowe.

Yeah, it's definitely a stat line comp. They don't really put much emphasis on it, so I think it's supposed to just be something interesting to see, not something to base your projection on.

    Two Javy Vazquez comps?

Bobby would be at the sight of that.

Pretty sure we would all be pretty happy with just about all of those - particularly Riley/Holliday. Kinda figure Albies makes enough contact to be a little better than Weeks in the end. I'm in the camp that thinks lots of people are missing on Fried, but he's such a wildcard it's tough to blame them.

Could definitely live with a Carrasco (Allard), Teheran, Vazquez (Gohara), Zambrano (Soroka), Garcia (Newcomb) rotation in a couple years. Would certainly allow the organization to be big players in free-agency/trades in the near future. Hang onto the three arms drafted last summer and we should have plenty of depth for awhile.

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

I see people more encouraged about Rio Ruiz development. Always seemed to have power that doesn't play in game. Hearing he dropped significant weight in a good way for the second year in a row and has put on muscle. He could be a under the radar contributor this season. Not as a star, but possible serviceable player surely.

I am hoping for a good spring and improved AAA presence. June call up to start taking some reps at 3rd. I like him like I do D-pete. He could become a good player that is dependable and can allow you to focus on other areas for the time being.
