    Matt Kemp Possibilities

Of all the Braves I am wondering about this incoming season, my eyes are on Matt Kemp.

    In shape - possibly 40 120 .280? 25 steals?

I know a lot of people hate him for defense but if he is in shape and put up those numbers, would you still get rid of him?

If he suck before deadline, get rid of him is my opinion, but if he is on pace as above, I would keep him.

I would be shocked if he had 5 steals. But I could see a .280/35/110 type season. but just as easily, he could be .255/25/75 season.

I mean, if he put up those numbers, you can't really go wrong. There would be a big market for him while he'd obviously be a big help to our team.

But what chance is there of him putting up those numbers? He's not getting 25 steals, that's just not happening. And .280 with 40 HR would put him pretty close to the best offensive year of his career that he put up when he was 26 and hasn't come close to since.

    He's key to me too.

I'm not a Matt Kemp believer. That said so far he's performed in ATL. By all accounts he put in the work in the off season. He's working extra now. He's a Brave so I'm rooting for him.

I think to feel good about him at this salary he's got to OPS at least 850 and not be terrible on D. I'm not even saying avg I'm just saying not a disaster.

I think he's got to really rake for him to be a positive for us at his salary and a potential trade chip. He'd probably have to be a 900 OPS and I don't think that is going to happen.

If I had to guess I'd have him in the 800-830 range with bad D. Probably an asset to the team but way overpaid.

I view myself as a relative optimist about Kemp...1.5-2.5 WAR, which would be his best season since 2012

    Pride

That is what he is playing for and to me is the biggest thing in the game.

LA is not the easiest place to hit homers, just like San Diego. Even our old park (hurts to say that) was huge and he did well. I heard our new park is relatively hitter friendly so that is why I posted this.

Motivation is a he'll of a thing and not something that can be captured by any statistical model. Could amount to absolutely nothing. We will see.

Didn't Andruw Jones have a spring where he had 10 or more HR's and we were all pumped up. He then turned around and had an awful regular season?

Gerald Laird played for more pride than any Brave.

Not one has topped Laird when it comes to motivation...no one.

Hope he starts fast, the Braves are Clearly in or out of contention at the trade deadline (no gray), and there are a lot of AL teams who need some offense and a DH and get best offer available.
