can I just say 'no thanks' to both of them for the money they're getting?
Yes, you can say it.

Which is why he's in danger of getting passed over in the battle for the rotation. Just have to feel that Snit and the brass are as tired of watching him skulk around and roll his eyes as the rest of us are. Time to grow up - this could be his last shot at being a starter here.

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
I said "here", but don't let that confuse anything guys.
We all love Folty, and are mesmerized by the potential, but several have had a little too much Kool-Aid. This isn't someone who's clock isn't ticking faster than several others. I'm big on preaching patience with young Pitchers, but Folty's beginning to run out of excuses when people question his makeup and chances to finally "get it". He becomes arbitration-eligible next season, meaning his salary significantly increases. The biggest part of his problem thus far is that he can't get out of his own way. NOBODY - in the Braves' organization or outside of it - questions his talent. There are plenty who reference that 10 cent head you mention when talking about him though.
If he can't get things together pretty soon, he's in danger of joining Sims as one of those million dollar arms who just can't PITCH. All talent, no substance. If you don't see a lot of Wohlers and other previously highly-regarded arms we've had that didn't work out in him, you weren't around before Frenchy and Mac.

Folty showed great improvement last year. Why at this time would anyone consider anything other than a starting pitcher. There are probably at most 20 pitchers in all of baseball that have hte stuff of Folty. Doesn't mean anything but man give it some time.

Folty has slowly improved. I am not sure he will ever be a dominant ace, but I think he might have one or two of those type years in him. Being that he will be arbitration eligible soon....might be smart to sign him to a reasonable long term deal and then sell high on him if the opportunity arises.
Folty pitched well enough last year where if he shows no improvement, he's still an ML starter. So why does he have to get it together?
He doesn't. As is his performance is pretty much league average. He does need to work on going deeper into games but to say he's close to not being a starter here anymore is really dumb. Who is close that is ready to pass him? Last I checked we don't have 5 guys ready to be average or better MLB starters signed for 2018.
Folty - 0.4 career WAR, 1.4 WAR in 2016 - 25 years, 150 days
More successful (many significantly) at a similar age...
Shelby Miller - 8.5 career WAR, -0.8 WAR in 2016 - 26 years, 147 days
Aaron Sanchez - 7.8 career WAR, 4.7 WAR in 2016 - 24 years, 248 days
Marcus Stroman - 4.8 career WAR, 1.5 WAR in 2016 - 25 years, 309 days
Jon Gray - 2.5 career WAR, 2.3 WAR in 2016 - 25 years, 121 days
Carlos Martinez - 9.8 career WAR, 5.9 WAR in 2016 - 25 years, 166 days
Noah Syndergaard - 8.5 career WAR, 6.0 WAR in 2016 - 24 years, 189 days
Gerrit Cole - 9.4 career WAR, 1.9 WAR in 2016 - 26 years, 179 days
Sean Manaea - 2.7 career WAR, 2.7 WAR in 2016 - 25 years, 33 days
Dylan Bundy - 1.8 career WAR, 1.7 WAR in 2016 - 24 years, 111 days
Kevin Gausman - 6.2 career WAR, 4.2 WAR in 2016 - 26 years, 59 days
Michael Fulmer - 4.8 career WAR, 4.8 WAR in 2016 - 23 years, 356 days
Lance McCullers - 4.0 career WAR, 1.7 WAR in 2016 - 23 years, 155 days
Carlos Rodon - 3.0 career WAR, 1.5 WAR in 2016 - 24 years, 86 days
Yordano Ventura - 7.2 career WAR, 1.9 WAR in 2016 - 25 years, 233 days (when he passed)
Chris Archer, Jake Odorizzi, Alex Cobb, Carlos Carrasco, Danny Salazar, Sonny Gray, Garrett Richards, James Paxton, Drew Smyly ALL had more success before they were Folty's age.
I honestly can't say for sure that I'd rather have Folty than any of those names at this point. Can you?
Again, we're all pulling for him - the point is he's not going to be a "cheap, young starter" much longer. It's time for him to quit hanging his head and acting like it's somebody else's fault that he's not successful.

That's kinda the whole point. It's time for Folty - and maybe to a little lesser extent Wisler - to take steps forward if they're to be considered long-term pieces. As mentioned, there's absolutely nothing wrong with them as league-average guys while they're inexpensive, but if they're going to become core pieces for the long run it's probably time for them to start to step up and exceed that. Otherwise, as you or several others have mentioned before, it's time to consider including them in trades while they're still relatively cheap if we're not sold that they'll ever be more than back-end starters.
