Garcia is a real gamble because he's oft-injured and last year wasn't the Garcia he use to be, folks assert well that was just second half but his first half numbers weren't good either. They just weren't bad like his second half. If he stays healthy I wouldn't expect more than a 3.50 ERA and if traded at the deadline I doubt he brings back any more than we gave up for him. Colon is someone you can trade and probably get the best return at the deadline if he keeps pitching well.
I don't think anyone on a one year contract that was acquired for very little is a big gamble, but I'd say Garcia is probably the most likely to pay off in prospects of the three.

there is a thesis for his struggles and he's healthy and entering a contract year. Still, you have to worry sometimes about taking the other side of a bet with the cards.

It's just odd for you to be low on him given how high you've been on low upside guys who didn't pitch well at all.

Don't think I've been "low" on him at all. Every time I've mentioned him, I've stated that I'm just as hopeful as everyone else. I'm just not ready to anoint him as a long-term rotation piece that we need to be looking to extend just yet. We have 3-4 guys who have a very good chance of being at least as good as he's been so far who will be ready within the next two years, meaning that I'd want to see a pretty significant step forward before I'd entertain trying to wrap him up. To this point, he's far from irreplaceable. There's no doubt he made some improvements last season, but it wasn't the type of huge leap forward we've seen other young Pitchers in other organizations make at times. I'm not sure when saying a player isn't a core piece - yet - meant you were down on him.

Sure I've been sky-high on a few guys - Julio, Freddie instead of J-Hey, Ender, Dansby (before most), Albies, Acuna, Fried, and Maitan to name the majority - but that pretty much exhausts the guys in our organization that most feel could potentially have All-Star upside. I don't feel that saddling those players with that kind of description is proclaiming them future Hall Of Famers any more than calling Folty a league-average performer to this point is proclaiming him a flop.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

    Sims so far: 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 K. Retired six of the last seven.

I don't think he has walked a batter in 7 innings this spring. That feels like a minor miracle.

Phillips crushed the ball in the second half last year. His spring has been promising for sure.

He did wave his hands and part the gatorade in the cooler before his first outing...

I would just love to see Fried absolutely lay waste to AA this year. Acuna too.

If he can stay healthy Fried could be our future ace. I also think Touki and Newcomb will be forces in the future if they can continue improving the control as they showed the second half. Touki was filthy towards the end.

I got to shake hands with Albies and Carmargo after the game today. They were in street clothes sitting on a bench waiting on a bus. Told them that I was pulling for them. Both of them may be in the big leagues by July if they keep playing up to their ability.
