    April 21st:

    1898: Against the Giants, Bill Dugglby becomes the first and one of just two players in ML history to hit a grand slam in his first at bat. It would not be done again until August 31, 2005, when it's done by the Marlins Jeremy Hermida.

    1900: As a minor league team, the White Sox play their first game, losing 5-4 to Milwaukee. The team would join the AL next season.

    1948: After a year long suspension, Dodgers manager Leo Durocher returns in a 9-5 loss to the Giants.

    1961: The Twins play their first home game in Minnesota, losing 5-3 to the new version of the Washington Senators.

    1966: The Phillies trade Fergie Jenkins, Adolfo Phillips, and John Herrstein to the Cubs for Larry Jackson and Bob Buhl.

    1972: The Rangers defeat the Angels 7-3 in their first Texas home game.

    1989: After helping to arrange a syndicate to purchase the Rangers, future president George W. Bush becomes the team's managing general partner.

    1994: In the Indians 10-6 win over the Twins, Eddie Murray homers from both sides of the plate for the 11th time, breaking Mickey Mantle's ML record.

    2012: The White Sox Phillip Humber pitches a perfect game in a 4-0 win over the Mariners.

    2014: The Pirates Ike Davis becomes the first player in ML history to hit a grand slam for two different teams in April. Before he was traded, he did so for the Mets against the Reds.

    1903: In their first game representing New York, the Highlanders (later the Yankees) defeats Washington 7-2.

    1921: Hall of Famer Warren Spahn is born in Buffalo, New York.

    1954: Hank Aaron hits the first of his 755 career home runs.

    1962: In their tenth try, the Mets win their first game, defeating the Pirates 9-1.

    1978: Joe Morgan's record streak for second basemen of 91 straight errorless games ends.

    1999: In the third inning against the Dodgers, the Cardinals Fernando Tatis becomes the only player in ML history to hit two grand slams in the same inning.

    2008: With a 7-6 victory over the Rockies, the Cubs join the Giants as the only teams in ML history to win 10,000 games.

    2014: Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda is caught with pine tar on his neck and is ejected from a game against the Red Sox. He would receive a ten game suspension.

    1876: The Chicago White Stockings, later known as the Cubs, defeat the Louisville Grays 4-0 in their NL debut.

    1972: The Padres fire manager Preston Gomez and replace him with third base coach Don Zimmer.

    1976: During the fourth inning of the Cubs game at Dodger Stadium against the Dodgers, Cubs outfielder Rick Monday takes an American flag away from two trespassers who attempted to burn it in the outfield.

    1978: The Cardinals fire manager Vern Rapp and replace him with Ken Boyer.

    1984: In the Mets 2-1 win over the Expos, Dwight Gooden becomes the first teenager to record ten strikeouts since Bert Blyleven in 1970.

    1989: The Mariners trade Mark Langston and minor leaguer Mike Campbell to the Expos for Brian Holman, Gene Harris, and Randy Johnson.

    1995: In a game that ended the 257 game strike, the Dodgers defeat the Marlins 8-7.

    1998: Cal Ripken Jr. plays in his 2,500th straight game.

    2001: Rickey Henderson draws his 2,063rd career walk, breaking Babe Ruth's record.

    1901: The A's lose to the Tigers 5-1 in their AL debut.

    1902: In his ML debut, future Hall of Famer Addie Joss pitches a one-hitter in the Indians 3-0 win over the Browns.

    1904: Ty Cobb makes his professional debut for Augusta of the South Atlantic League. He would double and homer, but be released two days later.

    1959: Japanese star Sadaharu Oh hits the first of his world record 868 career home runs.

    1961: In the Yankees 11th game of the season, a 13-11 win over the Tigers, Roger Maris hits his first home run.

    1980: In the Phillies 7-0 win over the Cardinals, Steve Carlton sets a NL record with his sixth career one-hitter.

    1982: Gene Michael is named Yankees for the second time, replacing Bob Lemon.

    1990: In the Rangers 1-0 win over the White Sox, Nolan Ryan ties Bob Feller's ML record of 12 career one-hitters.

    1995: In 14 innings, the Rockies defeat the Mets in th first game at Coors Field

    2000: In a 7-0 win over the Brewers, the Cardinals raise their home run total for April to 50, breaking the ML record.

    2002: The Rockies fire manager Buddy Bell and replace him with hitting coach Clint Hurdle.

    2006: Mike Piazza hits his 400th home run.

    1929: Dodgers pitcher Clise Dudley becomes the first player in ML history to hit a home run on the very first pitch thrown to him.

    1944: The Braves Jim Tobin pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Dodgers.

    1947: An ailing Babe Ruth is honored at Yankee Stadium before a game against the Senators.

    1961: The Angels lose to the Twins 4-2 in their first game at Los Angeles' Wrigley Field.

    1968: The Orioles Tom Phoebus pitches a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Red Sox.

    1971: Hank Aaron hits his 600th career home run.

    1973: The Royals Steve Busby pitches a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Tigers.

    1983: Nolan Ryan breaks Walter Johnson's ML record of 3,508 career strikeouts.

    1994: The Twins Scott Erickson pitches a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Brewers.

    1996: Barry Bonds hits his 300th career home run, joining Bobby Bonds, Willie Mays, and Andre Dawson as the only players in ML history with 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases.

    2002: The Red Sox Derek Lowe pitches a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over the Devil Rays.

    2003: The Phillies Kevin Millwood pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Giants.

    2004: Mike Piazza hits his 351st home run as a catcher, tying Carlton Fisk's ML record.
