Or you turn it like the early 2000 A's or the Giants during their recent heyday, or the Cards...

Now obviously those teams had more than just dominant pitching, as each team had at least 1 MVP winner on their team. But they did have dominant pitching that was pretty much entirely home grown.

You could. Which is more likely though? That's kind of the point. What is the best (most probable) way to build a good team?

I don't know that it's all that likely we would look like the Cubs 2-3 years ago either, even if we had focused on position players.

It has been said that pitching is easier to acquire and hitting is worth substantially more. But the last couple of off-seasons don't align with that opinion. The highest contracts have been going to the pitchers and the asking for front line starting pitching has been astronomical.

It's hard to find a good power hitting catcher and 3rd base? 3rd base has been a joke since Chipper retired. The cheap Braves would have to spend money on a decent free agent for once. Or trade away a bunch of our good pitching prospects for one

What were Bonds War numbers during the early 2000s. Was thinking about that earlier today. Imagine they were up there.

now that Freddie is a third baseman it is more doable

The reason you have seen that the last couple of seasons is no true top tier position player has hit the market in their prime. Expect that to change with Machado and Harper.

Position prospects are safer and as a result have better return rates. That is a historical fact. The Braves are in a good spot because they do have quite a few position players even with a lot of pitchers.

    From 2001-2004 he had numbers of 12.5, 12.7, 10.2, and 11.9

Obviously power helps a lot but I look more for whoever brings a better overall package.
The team would like the 1985 cardinals. It would be a lot of fun to watch. That 1985 Cards team was my favorite team to watch as a kid.

Interestingly, the best trade the Braves made by far, was acquiring two position prospects in Swanson and Ender.

I don't even count the HO trade because someone had to have been drunk to make that

That likely applies to the Swanson/Ender trade as well.

Did we Jackson or gohard for mallex. I always thought highly of mallex. I think he will be a good player.
