I'd imagine some team will have an under the table "extension" lined up a year or two into the contract.

Japanese players are a gamble somewhat like Cuban guys are. The ML clubs slobber all over these guys only to have every Ichiro be counterbalanced by 3 Fat Toads.
I'd put my money on the Rangers. They've been collecting international cash.
Indians now with an AL record 21 game winning streak. Incredible

You're probably right, they signed Robert before this signing period. They should be restricted, and the source of my info is wrong.

I've thought of this scenario as well. Apparently there are some "rules" against it but it can be done without really being done.
The way I look at it is that this guy is already giving up guaranteed mega millions by not waiting another year or two. When looking at it from that perspective the difference between the 300K and 5 million isn't that much. He's giving up a lot more by not waiting.

Absolutely unreal.
John Hart should be proud.

MLB to review an umpire hit by a pitch the catcher missed. Good thing Goodell isn't the commish cause just an accusation is enough evidence to him. Very unique situation here.

As for Otani there is nothing stopping him from holding out after the first season. He could also demand a contract clause that voids after the first year. There are no rules against it. That will probably change if Otani goes that route unless he ends up with a big market team like the Yankees or red sox. It still remains to be seen if the new commish is as much of a shill for the yankees as Selig was.

The Cardinals called Carson Kelly up in July and he's barely played. I wonder if they'd deal him this offseason. Yadi is there until 2020. Which pitcher would it take.
In the schadenfreude department, it's nice to see that Bartolo has come back down to Earth with an ERA in the vicinity of 9.00 for his four September starts.
