David Price on 210 day DL with elbow/forearm problems. I think we all know where this is probably heading...

Let this be the latest cautionary tale about signing SPs into their 30s. The folks that want to make a push for someone like Darvish this offseason.

Price was arguably the most durable pitcher in the game in his 20s. He routinely tossed 200-220 innings every year. His lowest inning total was 186 in 2013.

Then he turned 30...and now he's getting hurt.

With the way teams value young players and prospects now the days of getting a Matt Laporta (top 10 prospect) for half a season of CC Sabathis is over for the most part. Either someone really screws up (Dave Stewart) or it's something like the Cubs did last year with Chapman.
This is why it's so comical that folks think Adams has any trade value...

He would probably be worth that amount. Dude is a 5-time All-Star and former MVP who leads the bigs in wOBA and is 2nd in wRC+.

Oh, btw, he's 24 years old.

But yeah let's stick with Markakis or call up Dustin Peterson for RF. Lol.

Well, this is disconcerting. Perhaps I'm just entirely naïve. I thought MLB tested players for all of these illegal drugs, particularly cocaine. Growing up in the 80s, I know it was a problem that derailed Gooden and Strawberry, so figured MLB was still on top of it.

If he hits like 2015 or this year for the entire contract he could be. I'd still rather not pay 40 million a year for a guy into his mid 30's.

Cocaine doesn't increase performance like HGH so MLB doesn't really care.

People need to stop thinking big market teams act like small or mid market teams. The Cubs can just buy free agents and spend a fortune on international players. They can "overpay" in trades without much concern. And THEY WON!

It is going to have to be a big market team bc a team like us cannot throw 400 million on one player. But, Harper is going to be 26, which is young for that type of contract. How much would you pay for his 26-32 seasons and then have to deal with the last couple years? $400 million may be a steal.

If I could get Harper for 8 years at 400m I would sign him right now. Not that the Braves would be able to but theoretically if the Braves had a 150M payroll you have 100 leftover to field a team. You would have to continue to develop and draft like we have had the past three years which I think is possible given the resources spent on building the scouting department.

Harper is absolutely worth this money and hasn't even reached his prime yet. Great hitters age very well.

You're wrong. No team has ever won a WS with more than about 20% of their payroll tied into a corner player.

The Braves are not special. They will not be immune to that fact.

Ronald keeps playing left for Gwinnett. Not sure what that means.

This seems spurious. I'd like to know what % of the payroll the Yankees had tied up in Reggie Jackson, for example.

I guess paying for seasons 25-35 is better than what you normally do, but I sure wouldn't want to commit that much guarantee over that long a period. Almost rather pay 50 million for six years.

It's been stated in many places. You can google it yourself. I'm not here to teach everyone everything.

Because they want to replace Markickass with D-pete. so he is getting reps in RF. Acuna can play all three positions, so it makes sense to move him around.

The chuckles I get from reading moronic posts, mostly.

It's like watching my 7 month old fumble around as he tries to crawl towards the dogs, or tries to figure out a toy. Entertaining and adorable.

Yankees paid Reggie 525K that year and had a total payroll of 3.74 million.

I probably would as well. Braves can't do that though and compete.
