As first impressions go, Max Povse could not have done much better. The Mariners' No. 6 prospect carried a no-hit bid into the sixth Friday before giving up two hits over seven scoreless innings in Double-A Arkansas 6-1 victory over Corpus Christi at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Making his first regular-season start in Seattle's organization after an offseason trade from Atlanta, the right-hander set down the first 12 batters before issuing a leadoff walk to Jon Singleton in the fifth. Povse (1-0) then retired the next five batters. "I just tried to keep making pitches," he said. "My defense played unbelievable behind me tonight. I'll give a big shout-out to them."

I'm sure he'll have a good career..but I'm not upset still and I watched him a lot in Rome on up. I know it may not pan out but I like the gamble we tried. I wish him well.

    Tweet from someone there:

    #Braves LHP Drew Harrington quietly puts a 6 IP 0R 3H 1BB 3K line w/ 9 groundouts. Lots of weak contact. Strong c&c profile.

Baseball America posted their annual youngest player in each league article:

    http://www.baseballamerica.com/minor...H4RRZAuPd8I.97

Albies is easily the youngest player in AAA, almost a full year younger than the next youngest guy.

Allard and Soroka are the two youngest players in AA as well, by a pretty easy margin.

Acuna, Riley and Sanchez are in the High-A list while And Pache, Cruz and Anderson in the Low-A list. Braves have young guys throughout the levels.

Yep, agreed. I like the trade because we sold two lower ceiling guys for a potential high ceiling guy but with a lower probability of working out (the guys we traded had a higher floor). I don't think Povse projects to anything more than a solid 3 or 4 in a rotation while Alex Jackson has the potential to be a pretty valuable catcher if he can remember how to catch. He is hitting fairly well so far.

Nothing more than a 3 or 4 starter? Do you understand how valuable 6 years of control over that kind of pitcher is?

If the Braves think he projects as a mid rotation starter and still traded him for a project OF/C they all deserve to be fired.

Povse projects as a AAAA arm or swing man in the BP. That's why the trade was OK.

Point is still that it is a gamble. I'm tired of safe because it's gotten us no potential game changers over the last few years. I say let it play out. I agree about control but it's moot until it's reality on both ends.

You realize we have a couple of dozen potential 3 and 4 starters in our system, right? Those aren't that hard to find, compared to a potential starting catcher, especially in our catcher barren system. And, really, are Povse's chances to be a real every day 3 or 4 starters in the majors all that high? I'd give it less than 30% to 40% chance. We have dozens of guys with Povse's potential in our system already.

A change of scenery and an attitude change may make Alex Jackson a steal. Sounds like he's been a hard worker thus far and no reports of his previous immature behavior. But it's still early.

Nice to see Allard perform very well in his first start after skipping a level as a 19 year old

Is Braxton Davidson hurt or is he just starting to lose playing time?

When I look at Davidson I remember why we draft pitchers so often.

If Jackson and Riley continue to do better than expected and the Gohara we saw on Thursday is who he is going forward, the Florida team might be the best group of talent we have in our system right now.

I listened to his start. Definitely not great but he pitched well. His defense let him down. Bad throw by catcher. Easy double play only getting one out instead. But he did have some balls that got ripped but just foul too. I think his curve was not locating like he wanted.

I have listened to Rome twice. That is a good team. No power in lineup really but speed up and down. And great pitching through out.
