ESPN Insider: Braves Building Another Dynasty

Don't have insider but it is basically stating that this year the Braves have the most rWAR of players 25 and under. Hard to really disagree though I think that we have issues keeping those guys.

The Braves just have to use a small market teams philosophy. They really have more to spend so it should be easier. They just need to avoid anymore bad contracts.

We shouldn't have too much of an issue, only Bossman is at risk of hurting our future. But this should be indication that we shouldn't give up money on a FA unless it's short like Timmy.

It's going to be hard for us to ever build another sustainable dynasty because we can't even afford to keep all our homegrown talent. Our only hope is that we continue to develop talent down the pipeline of the minors.

Key is to keep a trio around for as long as possible and that is totally likely and possible, whether that's Justin, Jason, or Freddie or Jason, Freddie and Simmons, whichever of those 3 of those 4 we can keep we should.

After that we should move our young guys for prospects the year or 2 before FA.

So if there's an indication that Jason isn't willing to sign an extension with us, at what point do you consider shopping him around to get the best value in return?

I know it has been said before that they approached Freeman and Heyward about extensions and were turned down. We dont know what was offered but in some cases the players want to wait until they have their breakout season. Heyward still has not put together a good full season without injury. Freeman you could say had his breakout year this year making the all star team and being mentioned in the MVP race. He might be willing to negotiate this offseason. With Heyward you put him out there after the 2014 season and see if we can get a Teixera kind of deal for him from a team that thinks they can re-sign him. I dont see Heyward not negotiating, if a deal isnt done then he is just asking for more than the Braves will offer. If they say him down tomorrow and offered 5 years 125 million he would take it. Not that the Braves want to offer that. It could come down to keeping either Justin or Heyward and Justin seems like the easier sign because he will want to keep playing with his brother.

The Braves original dynasty was built with Ted Turners money. There wont be another dynasty like it, tho the ML owners are scared that Cuban might try. The Yankees and Dodgers will likely be powerhouses at times simply because of the Yes network and the LA market giving Dodgers so many billions of TV money.

I think this team WILL in fact be a strong contender just about every year during the next five years. It is would be difficult for any team that has produced the kind of talent that we have not to be a strong contender. In the past four years our minor league system has graduated an astonishing number of impact players: Heyward, Freeman, Kimbrel, Beachy, Minor, Simmons, Gattis, Teheran, Wood.

We should be grateful. These are amazing times to be a Braves fan.

It also has to do with who Selig lets become owners. He prefers people who don't have a ton of cash for the reasons you stated. He'd rather have guys with assets who can't just lose money on teams.
