    Starting pitching

Dont look now, but the rotation just went through with every starter pitching a Quality start.

If we keep getting production like that it bodes well for the team (W/L, value for trades, development of pen, covering up for obvious deficiencies).

I think as the season progresses the team is going to shake out as average pitching, below average offense, and bad defense.

the starters have been better than I thought thus far. Folty really hung in there, but CB is just horrible and I couldn't tell if he hurt Folty or helped him. I am really looking forward to Folty's next start. I hope Dickey get CB behind the plate sometime this year. Who knows how that would go.. but would be fun.

so far peripherals look good for Colon and Dickey, not so good for Garcia and Folty
..usual caveat about sample size applies

Julio has been excellent! I hope tonight is just as good. Folty hung tight and got squeezed like crazy, so I can't complain. Colon had two great games and one bad one, I'll take that any day. Dickey has been solid and Garcia has been eh.

    very happy with Tehran.
Folty seems the same old Folty.
Dickey and Colon are what I expected.

I expected Garcia to be much better.

Should be noted (or maybe not) that Folty had a 3.38 ERA and 4.40 FIP in his 2 starts this year. His lack of K's so far is weird though (and likely the difference between his ERA and FIP being so big).

Last year Faulty had only 2 walks, 16 strikeouts, and 4 home runs through his first three starts.
This season 7 walks, 8 strikeouts, and 1 home run. Although this is two starts and three overall appearances.

I could spin that as either a big positive (finally learning to pitch) or a big negative (losing control under stressful situations) or most likely neutral with a little snow thrown in for good measure.

I think there is really nothing to say right now. His first starts last season were in May when the weather is typically warmer. I wasn't trying to paint a picture one way or the other. I think he's a thrower and not a pitcher. Has a live arm, but doesn't know the intricacies of pitching.

I think the rotation has performed exactly as projected. Tereran is good, Colon and Dickey are reliably mediocre, Folty is volatile, and Garcia is bleh.

All that matters is Teheran stays healthy, and Folty gains consistency. So far 1 of those 2 has happened. Continuing to give Folty more time is all the Braves can and should do.

sample really is too small to give it too much of a spin either way...with starting pitcher I like to see them make ten starts before even tentatively drawing some conclusions

I'd like to see Garcia bolster his value and try to move him for longer term assets.

Which Garcia? Wait, never mind. I agree either way.

I was hopeful on Garcia and have not been very impressed so far.
