I think you could argue that the current trend is actually the opposite.

edit: I just don't see the initial increase as being as big as other stadiums that have recently opened.
They had a weekend series against the Cardinals and the sixth game was against the Dodgers. Both teams traditionally draw as road teams. We won't truly know the impact of the new stadium for another 3 years. This first year will have an artificial bump. I'm interested in what 2020 attendance is going to be because the last few years in Atlanta have been gross.

I'm not really sure how 500 apartments represents some kind of strategic commitment to community development, but ok.

The impact is going to be like any other new stadium that's been built. Initial increase and either a fast or slow decline back to pre new stadium levels. The better the team the slower that decline will be. Moving the stadium isn't going to cure Atlanta attendance issues overall. Not having a big bump this year would be pretty awful.

It would be foolish to build thousands of residential properties up front. It's a long term plan and again population trends for Cobb are very encouraging.

You see that sh*t we are putting out there?

    Garcia <choking gag>
    Swanson should be batting 8th
Left Field, who the f*ck ever is playing that position has no business in the majors, a giant suckfest out there.
Krol the Troll needs to be packing, anyone has Paco on speed dial?
Teheran let Harper be his personal bitch AGAIN. It is like he freezes up and see Bluto at the plate with a bat that is 3 feet wide vertically.
    Garcia <choking gag>
    Snitker <gag>
Garcia DP machine <choking gag with blood coming out of orifices>
Our bench is worse than anything we have. Hell the Braves from 1976 through 1990 (Dark Ages) had a bench ten times better even at their worst.
Oh did I say Garcia <choked to death>

That's where the development of Cobb comes in. The projections are probably for continued increased population.

Now you want to wait a bit longer to judge it?

That's fine. I'm not judging it. Just giving info.

I don't either, but I thought the Braves, or at least Liberty?, were getting revenue out of all the development surrounding the stadium.

If the Braves don't get a very large bump this year, it will be a very bad sign.

I'm hoping they do. But again - the FO goal was 3M in attendance. They won't come close. So are they just being fluffy or are they this bad at forecasting?

Diaz had a moment like that, too. Ten straight hits, or something like that.

Had to be against the Marlins. He was freaky good against them for a while.

Yep. He probably should've been traded during the initial rebuild (end of 2014 might be his peak trade value), but he definitely should've after last year.

Legit question...was this said by the front office?

I'll have to search for that. Because I think announcing a targetted attendance is a stupid move.

“I think 3 million is a stretch, but it’s something we certainly have as a goal,” said Derek Schiller, the Braves’ president of business. “Like every business, we’ve got to have our goals, and that’s a good goal.”

He's essentially admitting that it's unrealistic, but that it's a goal.

There are plenty of instances of execs saying that they expect significant increases, though.

Bottom line for me is that they need a winning team in order to do that, so it might take a while.
