If Soroka has another start or two similar to the first 2, then he's got to be a top 20 prospect in baseball, or at least top 30ish. You just don't do that in AA at that age. Urias pitched well there at 18 (though not quite that well), and he became a top 5 prospect.

Unless his performance falls off the table, I think he is a top 20 on the mid-season lists. Albies top 5. Allard top 30.

That's nuts lol. He could realistically start in Atlanta next season if he kept this up for most of this season.

Best practices would have him spend half of next year in AAA.

Yeah, there's no reason to start him in Atlanta at 20 next year. He already skipped A+, so at least give him some time in AAA.

we've all known deep down that this rebuild centered around the soroka and allard draft. the older pitchers (povse excepted) were probably never going to be ready and were never really great prospects. wisler was so overrated from the start and i think most of us knew it. newcomb still remains to be seen, but it's not looking fantastic at this point for him.

we're gonna have to wait for allard, soroka, weigel, gohara, and anderson or some combination of those guys to make it up before the rotation is really settled i'd guess.

I completely agree. But the FO just seems super aggressive about getting these guys up. I'd rather slow em down bc I think Swanson should have stayed down a little longer.

Well we shouldn't second-guess the FO. They are professionals and have a lot more information and expertise at their disposal.

i think the swanson to Atlanta now stuff is completely overblown. that dude isn't going to get any better facing AAA pitching. he's got a good head on him (rare in a sport filled with morons), college experience, winning experience, and some talent.

if he was always overrated, then nothing changes.

frankly, i just assume see what he is. if it turns out he's the next Frenchy, you still have time to get Albies back at short or plan for something else. if dansby is sitting in AAA for the next year and moves up with everybody else, you have a world of different problems you face.

as for the service time argument, that's the worst of them all. we all know he'll get a huge contract if he turns out to be as good as people hope. the service time with swanson is the least important thing we could ever imagine with this rebuild.

There is one aspect of this scenario that disturbs me. Which is that prospects, especially pitching prospects, tend to fall by the wayside as they get closer to the majors. So there is always this illusion that you have more in the pipeline at the lower levels. Realistically, we have to allow for more attrition from the guys in A ball or lower.

that's precisely why they're collecting as many of these high upside arms as possible.

we all doubt the braves will sign a true ace in the near future, so if they're going to get that stud, they're going to have to do it the hard way.

I've seen some ridiculous K to BB ratios but it definitely is unusual to see the ole undefined expression as a pitcher's K to BB ratio.

Every other FO in MLB disagrees with this sentiment.

why? ultimately what's the difference to the Braves? $10M? if dansby turns out to be legit and gets that contract, he'll make up the difference in jersey sales in a week. or ticket sales, or whatever else. or not, it's not going to matter.

hell, there's actually a reasonable economic argument that says bringing him up now makes more sense. if they sign him a year or two earlier to an extension, they'd pay less than they would had they waited two years as contracts rise over time as they always do.

in other words, it could actually save the braves millions in the long run.

the swanson service time complaint is nutso IMO.
