    2017 Offense

Runs Per Game: 3.61, 24th in MLB
    Team WRC+ 87, 20th in MLB

Three weeks in and we are a team in the bottom 3rd on offense even with Freeman being one of the best hitters in baseball.

Could be construed as a good or bad thing. We are 20th in WRC+ and Inciarte/Swanson are performing well below our expectations. Or, those two are at their expected norm and we are screwed moving forward.

As a team we are currently 8th in BABIP in the NL, 14th in walk rate, 10th in strikeout rate, and 12th in ISO.

Lack of OBP (we are 12th) is the main issue with our offense, reflecting mainly the walk rate. We have quite a few low walk rate players in the lineup (Inciarte, Swanson, Phillips, Garcia, Kemp), so this is likely to be a persistent issue.

I think it's more neutral to be honest. You have Freeman, Kemp, and Phillips performing better than their talent level with Ender and Swanson sucking it up.

Are you actually suggesting that 2-3 guys in the lineup won't always be going through a funk, and 2-3 guys always doing well? You think suddenly all players are going to be hitting at their full potential for an extended period of time and the Braves offense will take off?

Only you could see these facts as a positive. Everyone else knew this offense was going to be bad, just a little less bad than last year.

Stick to the rainbow and sunshine circle jerk section and make more lists of pitching prospects to drool over.

Update with one game left in April.

We have moved up to 5th in the NL in BABIP. I'll take it but BABIP is obviously not the sort of foundation to build upon. We are 13th in walk rate and 11th in strikeout rates. Slight improvement on both scores. 11th in ISO, also a small improvement.

We've jumped to 4th in OBP, which is a big improvement. I would feel better about it if it was more walk rate driven than BABIP driven.

    Update through Aug. 5

We are now 9th in the NL in OBP, 13th in ISO and 7th in BABIP. Average to slightly below average.

We are a low walk (15th in NL) and low strikeout team (13th) offensively. Long live the weak contact paradigm! Who says the front office can't execute a strategic plan!

Overall it has. Whatever gains the offense has given the team was given back with our poor pitching.

Braves are currently 20th in runs per game. Real chance it ends the season as a bottom 3rd offense.

How are the park factors playing into that? Specifically the launching pad that Sun Park is or was.

    25th in team WRC+

Factoring in only NL teams so we don't have the DH advantage puts the Braves tied 10th out of 15 teams. As I said at the start of the season I feel the team will end the year in the bottom 3rd of teams.
