    May 1st:

    1883: The New York Gothams, later known as the Giants, defeat Boston 7-5 in their first game.

    1884: Toledo catcher Moses Fleetwood Walker becomes the first black player in ML history.

    1906: The Phillies John Lush pitches a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the Brooklyn Superbas. It would be the last no-hitter for a Phillies pitcher until Jim Bunning's perfect game in 1964.

    1920: Babe Ruth hits the first of his 659 career home runs with the Yankees.

    1925: In the A's 9-4 loss to the Senators, Jimmie Foxx hits a pinch-hit single in his first at bat.

    1926: Satchel Paige makes his professional debut, pitching a shutout in the Chattanooga Black Lookouts 1-0 win over the New Orleans Algiers in the Negro League game.

    1951: Mickey Mantle hits the first of his 536 career home runs.

    1969: The Astros Don Wilson pitches a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Reds. It came a day after the Reds Jim Maloney pitched a no-hitter the prior day.

    1991: Nolan Ryan pitches his seventh no-hitter in the Rangers 3-0 win over the Blue Jays.

    1991: Rickey Henderson steals his 939th career base, breaking Lou Brock's all time record.

    2002: The Padres Trevor Hoffman records his 321st career save, setting a ML record with one team.

    2011: During the Mets/Phillies game in Philadelphia, fans start chanting "USA! USA!" after news filters out through the stands at Citizens Bank Park about the death of Osama Bin Laden. The players were unaware of the news and the reason for the chants.

    2012: The Orioles Buck Showalter records his 1,000th managerial win.

    1876: Ross Barnes of the Chicago White Stockings hits the first home run in NL history.

    1887: Hall of Famer Eddie Collins is born in Milerton, New York.

    1901: After the Tigers take a 7-5 lead in the top of the ninth inning, the White Sox slow the pace of the game in hopes of it being rained out. Umpire Tom Connolly forfeits the game to the Tigers, the first such result in AL history.

    1920: The Indianapolis ABCs defeat the Chicago Giants in the first game of the National Negro Baseball League.

    1923: Walter Johnson records his 100th shutout in the Senators 3-0 win over the Yankees.

    1930: A Western League game in Des Moines, Iowa against Wichita becomes the first night baseball game to be played under permanent lighting.

    1939: Before a game against the Tigers, Lou Gehrig tells manager Joe McCarthy he is benching himself "for the good of the team", ending his streak of 2,130 consecutive games played.

    1944: Ted Williams is commissioned as second lieutenant in the Marine Corps.

    1954: The Cardinals Stan Musial becomes the first player in ML history to hit five home runs in a doubleheader. In the stands that day was an eight year old fan named Nate Colbert, who in 1972 as the Padres first baseman, would become th only player to repeat that feat.

    1972: A's pitcher Vida Blue ends his holdout, agreeing to a contract worth $63,000.

    1988: Pete Rose becomes the first manager to be suspended for an on-field incident after he shoves umpire Dave Pallone, due to his delayed call allowing the eventual winning run to score. NL President Bart Giamatti suspends Rose for 30 days.

    1999: Nike's famous "Chicks Dig the Longball" commercial featuring Braves pitchers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine airs for the first time.


    2002: The Mariners Mike Cameron hits four home runs in a 15-4 win over the White Sox. Cameron becomes the 13th player in ML history to do so.

    2003: The Players Association agrees to a two year experiment in which the winning league in the All Star Game gets home field advantage in the World Series.

    1979: Bobby Bonds hits his 300th home run and joins Willie Mays as the only players in ML history with 300 home runs and 300 stolen bases.

    1980: Willie McCovey joins Ted Williams as the only players in ML history to homer in four different decades.

    1983: In a Texas League game, Dave Wilhelmi of the Shreveport Captains pitches a perfect game in a 7-0 win over the Arkansas Travelers.

    2001: Johnny Oates resigns as Rangers manager and is replaced by third base coach Jerry Narron.

    2006: MLB sells the Nationals to a group led by Maryland real estate developer Theodore Learner for $450 million.

    2011: The Twins Francisco Liriano pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the White Sox.

    1954: In the Phillies 14-10", 11 inning win over the Cardinals, the teams set a ML record by using 42 players.

    1963: In a 7-5 loss to the Cubs, Braves pitcher Bob Shaw sets a ML record by committing five balks.

    1966: Willie Mays hits his 512th home run, passing Mel Ott as the all time NL leader.

    1969: In the Astros 3-1 win over the Giants, they set a NL record by turning sevn double plays.

    1975: The Astros Bob Watson scores the one millionth run in ML history.

    1981: In the Yankees 4-2 win over the Angels, Ron David sets a ML record for relievers with eight straight strikeouts.

    1999: After 6,136 career at bats, the Cubs Mark Grace hits his first career grand slam in a 12-11 win over the Rockies.

    2007: In the second inning of the Mets/Diamondbacks game, the oldest pitcher vs. hitter match takes place as New York's 48 year old first baseman Julio Franco meets Arizona's 44 year old Randy Johnson.

    2010: Tigers Hall of Fame announcer Ernie Harwell dies at age 92.

    May 5th:

    1904: Cy Young pitches the first perfect game in AL history in the Red Sox 3-0 win over the A's.

    1917: The Browns Ernie Koob pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the White Sox.

    1953: In the Braves 10-3 win over the Reds, Max Surkont sets a ML record with eight straight strikeouts.

    1962:: The Angels Bo Belinsky pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Orioles.

    1978: Pete Rose records his 3,000th hit.

    2000: Tommy Lasorda is named manager of the US Olympic baseball team.

    2004: Mike Piazza hits his 352nd home run as a catcher, breaking Carlton Fisk's record.

    2004: In the fifth inning of the Astros 9-2 win over the Pirates, Roger Clemens records his 4,136th strikeout, passing Steve Carlton for second on the all time list.

    2015: The Cardinals Mitch Harris becomes the first pitcher of any of the military academies to earn a ML win in the Cardinals 7-4 victory over the Cubs. He was the first from Navy to appear in a ML game in 94 years.

    1917: The Browns Bob Groom pitches a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the White Sox in a doubleheader nightcap. It was the second straight day the Browns pitched a no-hitter.

    1931: Willie Mays is born in Westfield, Alabama.

    1953: In his first ML start, the Browns Alva Lee Holloman pitches a no-hitter in a 6-0 win over the A's. He would never pitch another complete game and win just two more games in his one year ML career.

    1968: Giants reliever Lindy McDaniel sets a NL record with his 225th straight errorless game.

    1981: The Mariners fire manager Maury Wills and replace him with Rene Lachemann.

    1982: Gaylord Perry records his 300th win, becoming the 15th pitcher to do so.

    1994: With the Cubs 10-1 victory over the Pirates, Anthony Young's record streak of 27 straight losses comes to an end.

    1998: The Cubs Kerry Wood ties a ML record with 20 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over the Astros.

    2005: In the Padres 6-5 win over the Cardinals, Trevor Hoffman records his 400th save.

    2012: At age 45, The Blue Jays Omar Vizquel become the oldest to play shortstop in ML history.

    1903: In the first of what would become one of the game's great rivalries, the Pilgrims (later Red Sox) defeat the Highlanders (later Yankees) 6-2 in Boston.

    1917: Babe Ruth outduels Walter Johnson on the mound and drives in the only run with an eighth inning sacrifice fly, leading the Red Sox to a 1-0 win over the Senators.

    1941: The Pirates trade Lloyd Waner to the Braves for Nick Strincevich.

    1957: In the A's 3-2 win over the Orioles, Vic Power becomes the first player in modern ML history to hit both a leadoff and walk-off home run in the same game.

    1957: The Senators fire manager Charlie Dressen and replace him with Cookie Lavagetto.

    1959: The Yankees defeat the Dodgers 6-2 in an exhibition game to benefit paralyzed former Dodger catcher Roy Campanella. A crowd of 93,103 fans lighted the Los Angeles Coliseum solely with candles when Campanella was wheeled out onto the field by former teammate Pee Wee Reese.

    1966: Johnny Keane is fired as Yankees manager and replaced by GM and former skipper Ralph Houk.

    1998: In a 6-0 loss to the Blue Jays, the Mariners tie a ML record by leaving 16 runners on base.

    2003: A man wanted for drug and parole violations is arrested by police at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. His cover was blown when his parole officer spotted him kissing his girlfriend on the stadium's "kiss cam".

    2006: Joe Torre records his 1,000th managerial victory in the Yankees 8-5 win over the Rangers.

    2009: Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez is suspended 50 games for violation of baseball's drug policy.

    2009: The Diamondbacks fire manager Bob Melvin and replace him with A.J. Hinch.

    2010: At 47 years old, Jamie Moyer becomes the oldest to pitch a shutout in ML history, leading the Phillies to a 7-0 win over the Braves.

    2016: In the Mets 6-3 win over the Padres, 42 year old pitcher Bartolo Colon become the oldest player to hit his first ML home run.

    1878: Outfielder Paul Hines of the Providence Grays works the first triple play in ML history. He made a shoestring catch, then stepped on third base, retiring both runners who had passed the base.

    1926: A three alarm fire burns the grandstand roof and left field bleachers at Fenway Park.

    1929: The Giants Carl Hubbell pitches a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over the Pirates.

    1961: The New York Metropolitan Baeball Club, Inc. announces the new NL team to start play the next season will be known as the Mets.

    1966: The Cardinals lose to the Giants 10-5 in the last game at Busch Stadium, which was known for most of its time as Sportsman's Park.

    1968: The A's Catfish Hunter pitches a perfect game in a 4-0 win over the Twins. It was the first perfect game in the AL since the White Sox Charlie Robertson in 1922.

    1973: The Cardinals Bob Gibson makes his 242nd straight start, breaking the ML record.

    1984: In his ML debut, Kirby Puckett records four singles in the Twins 5-0 win over the Angels.

    1992: Astros pitcher Butch Henry becomes the first player in ML history to have an inside the park home run become his first hit.

    1998: Mark McGwire records his 400th home run.

    2012: The Rangers Josh Hamilton becomes the 16th player in ML history to hit four home runs in a game in a 10-3 win over the Orioles.

    May 9th:

    1871: Esteban Enrique 'Steve' Bellan of the Troy Haymakers in the National Association becomes the first Hispanic to appear in a ML game. The native of Cuba played infield for the team.

    1947: After making racially charged language towards Jackie Robinson the prior day, Phillies manager Ben Chapman askes the Dodgers if he could make amends by posing with him in front of photographers. The staged gesture is prompted by the bad press Chapman received for his conduct and wrath of Commissioner Chandler. Robinson admitted later it was one of th hardest things he had to make himself do.

    1960: Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn is born in Los Angeles, California.

    1967: Roger Maris hits his first NL home run in the Cardinals 6-3 win over the Pirates.

    1987: The Orioles Eddie Murray becomes the first player in ML history to homer from both sides of the plate in consecutive days.

    1999: After starting the day with a single Florida State's Marshall McDougal hits six straight home runs and drives in 16 runs, both NCAA records, in a 26-2 win over Maryland.

    2001: The Diamondbacks Randy Johnson strikes out 20 Reds batters over nine innings. It is not officially recognized as a tied record due to the game going extra innings and Johnson being pulled after the ninth.

    2006: Devil Rays prospect Delmon Young is suspended 50 games for throwing his bat that hits an umpire in the chest.

    2007: Braves catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia makes his ML debut. His 14 letter surname becomes the longest in ML history.

    2010: The A's Dallas Braden pitches a perfect game in a 4-0 win over the Rays.

    1967: Hank Aaron hits the only inside the park home run of his career, doing so against the Phillies Jim Bunning.

    1970: The Braves Hoyt Wilhelm becomes the first pitcher in ML history to appear in 1,000 games.

    1981: The Expos Charlie Lea pitches a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Giants.

    2005: Tony Pena resigns as Royals manager, replaced by bench coach Bob Scaeffer.

    2008: The Padres Greg Maddux wins his 350th game, a 3-2 win over the Rockies.

    2012: The Orioles become the first team in AL history to start a game with three straight home runs, as Ryan Flaherty, JJ Hardy, and Nick Markakis go deep of the Rangers Colby Lewis.

    1946: The Braves lose to the Giants 5-1 in their first home night game. The team wears satin uniforms to reflect the lights.

    1963: Sandy Koufax pitches his second career no-hitter in the Dodgers 8-0 win over the Giants.

    1972: The Giants trade Willie Mays to the Mets for pitcher Charlie Williams and $50,000 cash.

    1977: In an effort to break a 16 game losing streak, Braves owner Ted Tuner takes over as manager for a night. The Braves still lose, 2-1 to the Pirates. NL President Chubb Feeney informs Turner he can't manage again due to a rule stating managers cannot have an ownership stake in the team.

    1996: The Marlins Al Leiter pitches a no-hitter in an 11-0 win over the Rockies.

    1998: With 13 strikeouts against the Diamondbacks, the Cubs Kerry Wood sets a ML record with 33 In two straight games.

    2003: The Marlins fire manager Jeff Torborg and replace him with Jack McKeon.

    2003: The Rangers Rafael Palmerio hits his 500th home run.

    2016: The Nationals Max Scherzer ties a ML record with 20 strikeouts in a 3-2 win over the Tigers.

    1941: After being the Bees for five years, Boston's NL team once again becomes known as the Braves.

    1955: The Cubs Sam Jones pitches a no-hitter in a 4-0 win over the Pirates.

    1956: The Dodgers Carl Erskine pitches his second career no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Giants.

    1966: The Cardinals defeat the Braves 4-3 in the first game at Busch Stadium. Lou Brock's RBI single in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Cardinals the win.

    1970: Ernie Banks hits his 500th career home run.

    2001: The Marlins AJ Burnett issues nine walks, but pitches a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Padres.

    2008: Future NL Rookie of the Year Buster Posey plays all ten positions for Florida State in a 10-0 win over Savannah State.

    2013: The Cubs and Anthony Rizzo agree to a seven year deal worth $41 million.

    1942: In the Braves 6-5 win over the Cubs, Jim Tobin becomes the first modern day pitcher to hit three home runs in a game. It was also done in 1886 by Guy Hecker of Louisville.

    1947: As Jackie Robinson receives racial slurs from the crowd at Cincinnati's Crosley Field, Pee Wee Reese, a Kentucky native who had friends attending the game, engages in conversation. He then puts his arm around Robinson, a gesture which silences the crowd (below clip is a dramatization of the event from the movie 42).


    1955: For the first time in his career, Mickey Mantle homers from both sides of the plate, helping the Yankees defeat the Tigers 5-2.

    1958: Stan Musial becomes the eighth player, and the youngest, to record 3,000 hits.

    1982: The Cubs become the first team to win 8,000 games.

    1985: In the Reds 7-3 win over the Phillies, Tony Perez, a day before his 43rd birthday, becomes the oldest player in ML history to hit a grand slam.

    1991: In the booth at Wrigley Field, Cubs broadcaster Harry Carey is joined by his son Skip and grandson Chip, both broadcasting for the Braves.


    1993: George Brett joins Hank Aaron, Carl Yastrzemski, Stan Musial, Willie Mays, and Al Kaline as the only players in ML history with 300 home runs and 3,000 hits.

    2002: Due to injures, Jose Canseco retires at 37 years old.

    2010: The Royals fire manager Trey Hillman and replace him with baseball operations assistant and former Brewers skipper Ned Yost.

    1988: The Cardinals Jose Oquendo becomes the first non-pitcher in ML history to record a decision. He gets the loss in a 7-5, 19 inning defeat to the Braves.

    1996: The Yankees Dwight Gooden pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Mariners.

    1912: After listening to heckling from fans, Ty Cobb goes into the stands and fights Claude Leuker, who due to an industrial accident, had no fingers on one hand and only two on the other.

    1918: Walter Johnson pitched all 18 innings in a 1-0 win over the White Sox.

    1941: Joe DiMaggio starts his record 56 game hitting streak.

    1944: The Reds Clyde Shoun pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Braves.

    1952: The Tigers Virgil Trucks pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Senators. It was the first of two he pitches that season.

    1960: In his first game since being traded from the Phillies to the Cardinals, Don Cardwell pitches a no-hitter against the Cubs.

    1967: Hall of Famer John Smolt is born in Warren, Michigan.

    1973: Nolan Ryan pitches the first of his seven career no-hitters in the Angels 3-0 win over the Royals.

    1981: The Indians Len Barker pitches a perfect game in a 3-0 win over the Blue Jays.

    1989: The Blue Jays fire manager Jimy Williams and replace him with hitting coach Cito Gaston.

    1998: The Marlins trade Gary Sheffield, Bobby Bonilla, Charles Johnson, Jim Eisenreich, and Manuel Barrios to the Dodgers for Mike Piazza and Todd Zeile.

    2002: The Royals name Astros bench coach Tony Pena as their new manager.

    2008: The Brewers and Ryan Braun agree to an eight year deal worth $45 million.

    1912: Ty Cobb is suspended for his assault on a fan the prior day. The Tigers would meet to vote on a possible boycott if Cobb was punished.q

    1939: In the first AL night game, the Indians defeat the A's 8-3,at Philadelphia's Shibe Park.

    1965: Jim Palmer pitches 3.2 innings in relief and records his first ML win in the Orioles 3-2 victory over the Yankees.

    1966: The Tigers name Bob Swift acting manager after Chuck Dressen suffers a heart attack.

    2000: A fan at Wrigley Field steals the hat of Dodgers catcher Chad Kreuter and hits him in the head. Several Dodgers, including coaches Rick Dempsey and John Shelby, go into the stands and start fighting with some of the fans.

    2011: Drayton McLane sells the Astros to a group led by Jim Crane for $685 million.

    May 17th:

    1925: Tris Speaker records his 3,000th hit.

    1939: Princeton defeats Columbia 2-1 in the first baseball game to be televised. The game airs on experimental New York TV station W2XBS.

    1956: The Cardinals trade Bill Virdon to the Pirates for Bobby Del Greco and Dick Littlefield.

    1963: The Colt .45s Don Nottebart pitches a no-hitter in a 4-1 win over the Phillies.

    1970: Hank Aaron records his 3,000th hit.

    1971: After the Twins and Braves released him earlier in the year, Luis Tiant signs a deal with the Red Sox.

    1979: In the Cubs 23-22 win over the Phillies, the two teams tie a ML record with 11 home runs.

    1985: The Rangers fire manager Doug Rader and replace him with third base coach Bobby Valentine.

    1998: The Yankees David Wells pitches a perfect game in a 4-0 win over the Twins.

    2011: Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew dies at age 74.

    2015: The Marlins fire manager Mike Redmond. He is replaced by GM Dan Jennings, who never played in the majors or managed on any level.

    1946: Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson is born in Wyncote, Pennsylvania.

    1956: Mickey Mantle hits his 136th home run, becoming the all time leader for switch-hitters.

    1969: In the third inning of the Twins 8-2 loss to the Tigers, Cesar Tovar and Rod Carew steal five bases, a ML record for teammates in an inning. Tovar stole third and home with Carew swiping second, third, and home.

    1988: The A's Dave Stewart commits his 12th balk of the season, breaking the ML record.

    1990: Ryne Sandberg's record streak of 123 straight errorless games ends.

    2000: Mark McGwire hits his 539th career home run, passing Mickey Mantle for eighth on the all time list.

    2004: The Diamondbacks Randy Johnson pitches a perfect game in a 2-0 win over the Braves. At age 40, he becomes the oldest to do so.

    2012: Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood ends his career, striking out the one batter he faces. As he heads off the mound, he is met by and embraces his six year old son in front of the dugout.

    1979: The ML umpires return to work after a six week strike, during which replacements took their places.

    1993: The Mets fire manager Jeff Torborg and replace him with Dallas Green.

    2002: The Cubs Fred McGriff hits a two run home run in Milwaukee's Miller Park, tying Ellis Burks' record of homering in 40 different ballparks.

    2008: The Red Sox Jon Lester pitches a no-hitter in a 7-0 win over the Royals.

    May 20th:

    1919: Babe Ruth hits the first of his 16 career grans slams in the Red Sox 6-4 win over the Browns.

    1947: In the Pirates 4-3 win over the Braves, the two teams combine to hit 22 singles and no extra base hits.

    1983: During a 5-0 Phillies loss to the Padres, Steve Carlton records four strikeouts, raising his total to 3,511 to pass Walter Johnson for second on the all time list.

    1991: The Red Sox Jeff Reardon becomes the fourth reliver to record 300 saves.

    2000: In his first at bat as a member of the Mariners, Rickey Henderson joins Ted Williams and Willie McCovey as the only players to homer in four different decades.

    2004: The Cardinals Mike Matheny handles his 1,295th chance without committing an error, breaking the ML record for catchers.

    2006: After being run over by the White Sox AJ Pierzynski, the Cubs Michael Barrett punches his opposite catcher, igniting a bench clearing brawl between the Chicago teams in which four were ejected.

    2012: An undisclosed buyer purchases a 1920 Babe Ruth jersey for $4,415,658. Making it the largest amount ever paid for a piece of sports memorabilia.

    1925: In the Senators 6-2 win over the Tigers, the team's tie a nine inning record by turning nine double plays.

    1941: Hall of Fame manager Bobby Cox is born in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

    1943: In the quickest game in AL history, it takes just 89 minutes for the White Sox to record a 1-0 win over the Senators.

    1952: In a 19-1 win over the Reds, the Dodgers score a record 15 first inning runs.

    1963: In the Reds 2-0 win over the Braves, Jim Maloney strikes out eight straight batters, tying the ML record with Max Surkont and Johnny Podres.

    1992: Angels manager Buck Rodgers and 11 others are injured when the team bus loses control on the New Jersey Turnpike and crashes into trees. Rodgers would miss 90 games.

    2000: Six grans slams are hit on the same day for the first time in ML history, hit by the Angels Garret Anderson, the Giants JT Snow, the Phillies Brian Hunter, the A's Jason Giambi, and Adrian Beltre and Shawn Green of the Dodgers.

    2013: At 21 years old, Mike Trout becomes the youngest player in AL history to hit for the cycle, doing so in the Angels 12-0 win over the Mariners.

    1890: In the Giants 17-10 win over the Pittsburgh Alleghenys, the two teams combine to set a NL record with 17 stolen bases.

    1935: The scheduled first night game in ML history, set to be the Phillies and Reds in Cincinnati, is rained out.

    1963: Gil Hodges is named manager of the Senators following the completion of a deal that sent Jimmy Piersall and a player to be named later to the Mets.

    1970: After a 17-16 loss in 15 innings to the Padres, the Giants fire manager Clyde King and is replaced by Charlie Fox.

    1980: The players and owners agree to a preliminary four year agreement that allows the issue of free agency to be reopened the next year. The following season, a 50 day strike due to disagreements over free agency compensation costs 712 games.

    1984: With a 4-2 victory over the Angels, the Tigers tie the AL record held by the 1912 Senators with their 16th straight road win.

    1991: The Phillies Tommy Greene pitches a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Expos.

    1991: Andre Dawson joins Bobby Bonds and Willie Mays as the only players to have record 300 home runs and 30 stolen bases.

    2000: Rickey Henderson joins Babe Ruth and Ted Williams to draw 2,000 walks.

    2002: Shawn Green hits four home runs in the Dodgers 16-3 win over the Brewers.

    1922: After being called out trying to stretching a single into a double, Babe Ruth throws dirt in the umpire's eye, goes after a heckler, then climbs on top of the dugout, yelling at the mocking crowd and calling them "yellow". He would be suspended one game and fined $200.

    1935: Playing for the Braves, Babe Ruth hits the final three home runs of his career. The last of which clears the roof at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field.

    1937: Mickey Cochrane's career ends when he is hit by a pitch from the Yankees Bump Hadley. Near death at first, he spends six weeks in the hospital. He would return to the Tigers as manager.

    1951: Willie Mays makes his ML debut, going 0-5 against the Phillies in the Giants win.

    1953: In the Braves 10-3 win over the Reds, Max Surkont sets a ML record with eight straight strikeouts.

    1981: Carl Yastrzemski joins Ty Cobb, Stan Musial, and Hank Aaron as the only players to play in 3,000 games in ML history.

    2011: The Yankees Mariano Rivera becomes the first pitcher in ML history to appear in 1,000 games with the same team.

    1993: In the fourth inning, a fly ball hit by the Indians Carlos Martinez bounces off the head of Rangers outfielder Jose Canseco and goes over the wall for a home run. It proves to be the difference in the Indians 7-6 win.
