I'm torn between this and trusting that they know what they're doing with the Mississippi promotions, as I've really failed to see any of those moves work out poorly. It's certainly unconventional, but after watching Albies, Swanson, Allard and Soroka respond in AA, I can't really fault them.

No kidding, Acuna is striking out in over a third of his ABs and isn't even 20 yet, this is pretty nuts.

Agreed. I don't think they serve any truly positive purpose. I've always been in the camp of making absolutely certain guys have mastered a level before you move them up. Five weeks in High A isn't going to accomplish that.

And if the end goal is to have a bunch of guys learning the game at the big league level, that's truly a mistake. All you do is start service clocks and have to make decisions on guys before they have truly learned how to play at the big league level.

Congrats to the kid.... it's not like he is starting his service clock or anything....put him up against better competition and see how he does....if he struggles, he can go back down, if he excels, then maybe we have something.

Expecting YUGE games tonight from Gohara and Allard......and a mediocre game from Wisler

I thought he was going to start the year in AA, and I would have been ok with that. Having said that, while he's had success in A+, I would wait until it was clear he had solved the K issues before promoting him at this point.

Great for Acuna. He most certainly is an elite prospect and after a mini slump he has started to hit alot. Middle of 2018 seems very possible now.

I'm just not sure why it's necessary now. The k rate and walk rates are bad. And he didn't even get a full season at low a. Now he has essentially a good three-week span and he's ready for AA ball at 19? It's just really strange.

This front office is acting like they're on the hot seat and desperate to get to keep their jobs by pushing young talent to the big leagues. I don't think anyone believes that to be the case though.

I'm not even saying I think Acuna will fail. He's good enough to keep hitting. It just feels really unnecessary.

Well I guess you are challenging guys. But will they be consistent. Does this mean Riley is next if he sustains his pace
The next week or so. Just not sure I like the Acuna promo this early. He was just starting to see success. Why not let that stew a bit more then move him.

I'm happy for aggressive moves but I agree..this doesn't seem like the right time. I know he had struck out a lot, but watching him...he's not lost. He thinks he can hit everything..in any case, I would have continued letting him grow with Riley,Jackson &Co...

I wonder if that's part of it, honestly. If the FO thought Acuna wasn't being challenged enough by Hi-A pitching and it was leading to him being too aggressive, then maybe the idea is that he'll be pushed by AA pitchers to make necessary adjustments.

From the eye ball test....I've seen people strikeout because they are overwhelmed...lost...(Unfortunately Dansby at the moment). In Acuna's case, he's supremely confident and isn't often challenged with anything remotely Hittable in the middle to lower away quadrant of the zone. I've only seen him twice this year but both times he was right on the pitches he struck out on (twice I think). Albies has the best bat to ball skills and he had been striking out more than normal. Acuna has a great knack for the barrel...just misses. I think he will be challenged at AA because they are around the plate more....not a fan of this though I think he may hold his own.

Deester, you're giving me a scare. You're making Acuna sound like Francoeur.

I suppose the splits must be better the last few weeks, but don't really see the reason for it. I guess they perhaps saw enough in Spring Training to believe he was advanced and just wanted to see it at the lower level. I do hope that he gets a good long time in AA.

They were just waiting to send him to AA. If he does well, he could be in AAA by the end of the year.
