Has this year been the most fun to follow the minor leagues? Certainly has been for me. Any fan could probably name 10 guys on a given night they are tracking.

It's definately been a blast so far. My only draw back is how aggressive they've been in moving guys so far.

It's worked out so far though. If they struggled I'd be more worried

The problem is it's easier to blow through levels and not struggle when you jump through levels quickly. It's much harder for your weaknesses to be found when you aren't facing the same players over and over for a while. I think that's part of what allows guy like Franceour to destroy the minors and get exposed once they hit the majors even though they have major holes they need to fix. It's not a big deal for what they've done so far this season, but I really hope they leave Acuna, Allard, and Soroka at AA for the rest of the season (or for all of it but a cup of coffee in AAA at the end).

I certainly agree with that. I don't want any of those guys to see above AA... but Weigel was a college guy so I have no problem seeing him at AAA

But there's also something to be said for not waiting if a guy is clearly too good for a level. Look at Albies. It wouldn't have done him any good to continue dominating AA, so it makes sense to keep pushing until they hit a level where they're going to struggle some.

What good would it have done, for example, to have Allard K'ing everybody at A+? Better to move him to a level where he has to focus more on how he's pitching and work harder to get guys out.

Exactly. In fact, if Allard keeps dominating AA I'd move him up to AAA soon.

But you need to leave them there long enough to determine if it's hot streak or if they are truly not challenged, 100-150 ABs isn't a good determination. They may see the same team twice in 100-150 ABs, you aren't getting a true chance to see the teams adjust to the player and vice versa.

I agree with you on Albies, and as I said none of the moves we made this year are bad at all. Having Allard and Soroka at AA is a good thing, Acuna would have started there anyway if he hadn't had the injuries, and Weigel needs to be in AAA at his age range. But all of them need to stay where they are at for the duration of the year now that they are there.

I don't really care as much about players flying through A and A+ ball, but I think it's really important players spend almost a full season at AA or AAA, or at least somewhere along the line they need to have a season where they get 400+ ABs at a level or around 20 starts at one level to give them a full taste of what it's going to be like playing a full season in the pros. Otherwise I don't think the player really has time to get challenged fully.

Our biggest offensive disappointments over the last 15 years would be Heyward and Frenchy, and both were bull rushed through the minors to the majors (and Swanson was rushed up while he was actually being challenged in AA). I think that hurt their ability to adjust once they hit the majors, because they never learned in the minors. It may not have mattered long term at all, but it certainly didn't help. On the flip side Freddie and Mac got moved much more slowly through levels overall, and have been much more consistent overall. Correlation doesn't equal causation per se, but I think the little things help. At the very least I see zero reason to not give the players plenty of time just in case it helps, particularly when we suck anyway.

Anderson pulled after 3 terrible innings. What's up with that?

He gave up two earned runs...not horrible, but was at 73 pitches.

Yeah, exaggeration on my part. 5 hits and walk in 3 innings just didn't look good to me

Giving up 2 in the 1st inning and 3 in first 3 innings with 7 hits, then getting thru 6 without another hit or run is impressive for 1st AAA start

Gleyber Torres and Ronald Acuna are the two best prospects in all of baseball.
