He's done that only twice in his career, about 5 years ago. It just isn't likely at an older age and with the nagging injuries he's had. I'm sure he'll finish this season around the .900 OPS mark if he stays healthy enough to reach 500-600 at bats. But it's far more likely his future performance will fall in line with his career averages. And a mid .800 OPS hitter with bad defense just isn't super valuable, especially at his price.
Seriously talking about Kemp production?
Grow up and quit having an agenda.
So what's Kemp's bWAR now?
Predictably, it is decreasing as his BABIP is normalizing and his defense continues to be putrid.
3/3, 2 2b
Avg = .346
Ops = .972
Anyone know what Greg Vaughn's WAR/DWAR was in 98-99 when he posted some big slugging numbers? Trying to find a Kemp comp. Offensive slugger but horrible defender.
Forever Fredi
BBREF has Carlos Lee as a comp. That's fair.
The reason it's so hard to find a comp for Kemp is because few teams are stupid enough to leave such a poor defender in the OF very long. Trumbo is a very good comparison, and he sees very little time in the OF anymore.
