Well, looks like Carpenter is the only reliever who can get some outs before Kimbrel. Let's hope he maintains his effectiveness...

He's the best I've ever seen at doing that followed by a swing and a miss.

It seems like more but we did get a few big walks and two HBP's in a row. So more base runners than 5 hits suggests.

And as usual they failed to add on since the 4th and it probably cost them the game. What an atrocious loss this would be. What's up with our vaunted bullpen

Like I said, when you're constantly having to win close games and hanging on, they get worked more and more and more.

He's not good at anything. He will go on little 3-4 game tears and then it's right back to blowing. He's very hard to cheer for.

They were probably pitching over the head, some still are (Carpenter and Varvaro namely) along with overuse (including being warmed up too many games in a row). Avilan stands out in that regard, but that ended Gearrin's season and other bigger names before him (so nothing new).

Right, including games they warmed up and didn't pitch. Walden getting hurt made it tougher, then Fredi refused to call up help at start of Sept. too. He should've added a power arm like Obispo and if Hale isn't starting use him too. But instead we get a terrible vet pitching at key times (Loe).

Or games that they just were brought in to face one hitter.

But if Avilan can't find a second wind, it may be time to switch roles with him and Downs.

I expect both will still be needed at key times in the playoffs either way. I am as concerned about Walden as I am anyone to be honest.

Good work from Carpenter. Offense hasn't done a damn thing against their supposedly awful bullpen. So it'd be nice to get a run here.

Yeah, he's given up a couple bombs lately.

Here's Gregg, 3-0 count. Hopefully Schafer can work a walk. I've never though much of Gregg and was glad we didn't get him.

Good AB by Schafer, that was clearly ball four too.
