Ah, I see. To take on that contract I'd want someone better than 11-15, if that's what you meant.

Unfortunately, I doubt the Yanks would really pursue salary dumps. They could easily afford to just cut him and eat the money without giving up any extra talent, if it gets to the point where they REALLY don't want him taking a roster spot.

I'm having trouble picturing a scenario where the Braves taking on money the Yankees wanted to shed makes sense for the Braves. I think we are past the point where that works unless you like Headley for the Braves.

Unless they take Kemp back I wouldn't do it.

reading MLB trade rumors I read that the Yanks were very cost averse b/c of luxury tax. IIRC it was in an article about Prado and how they couldn't take on his salary.

I'm operating in a world where the braves have money to spend and nobody as a free agent worth spending it on. I think we should be looking for a salary dump as a way to improve the club.

salary dumps have 2 virtues...they don't cost much in the way of prospects and usually have shorter duration and less risk than a new free agent contract

I'd want to see the full proposed package on a Headley "salary dump". I'm not sure I quite understand that deal. If its to get Headley, I'm sure it can be done. If it's to get Headley and a good prospect for Atlanta's trouble? I'm not sure I see that happening.

I'd want to see the last time the Yanks did a salary dump...

Just think about how this thread will balloon when a trade actually occurs.

MLBTR article claims the Jays, Angels and Royals are interested in Dee Gordon.

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/...ys-royals.html

It's logical to conclude any team interested in Gordon would also be interested in BP to some degree. Here is the production each team has gotten from 2B in 2017:

    KC - .254/.300/.392, 0.9 fWAR
    Jays - .230/.277/.355, -0.4 fWAR
    LAA - .180 .259 .276, -0.6 fWAR

    BP - .280/.326/.411, 1.0 fWAR

Assuming BP produces 1 fWAR the rest of the season, he is a massive upgrade for the Jays and Angels (and Rockies -0.1 fWAR).

Those are the teams Coppy should be calling in an attempt to sell BP.

Those who want to deal for an Ace, or semi-Ace like Quintana, there is this quote as well:

"The South Siders have pressed the Astros for Francis Martes and Kyle Tucker, while asking the Yankees to headline a deal with either Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier."

Those are the best 2 prospects from either system, and all 4 guys are easily Top 25 guys. This is the type of package needed to acquire a controllable TOR pitcher.

Keep this in mind the next time clv comes up with some asinine idea about packaging several spare parts to acquire an Ace.

Interesting. I like it for the Cubs more than the Sox at the moment. Mainly because Schwarber is a DH so the Cubs are hurt by using him in the OF. And his stock is way down. I don't think Chicago takes that.

Cubs waited too long to cash in Schwarber. It was clear from the start he was a DH that needed to be traded away from the NL while his value was sky-high. They stubbornly tried to make him stick at C or LF, and saw his value drop substantially.

Pretty painful mistake made by the Cubs, especially considering how blatantly obvious it was that Schawrber had no defensive position in the NL game (or at least with the Cubs who have Rizzo at 1B).

I think he'll come back and hit very well though. Trying to trade him right now for Fulmer is trying to trade him as if his value is still what it was a year and a half ago.

Are you criticizing the Cubs' brilliant front office?

I will criticize any FO that makes stupid mistakes. Just like I will praise them for good decisions.

Pozzies only seem to remember when I criticize the Braves FO because it makes them sad.

Since someone has pointed out that Freeman just might not win a Gold Glove at 3B, why not trade Demeritte and Tyler Pike for Prado and $10 million and platoon Kemp and Adams in LF?
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
