Wow the Cardinals got Tyler O'Neill for their #18 prospect?! We certainly could've come up with a similar package to get a power OF bat.
That is an odd trade between these two. I am not huge on O'neil however. Big time K guy. seen him in B'ham a few times and he was not impressive..

No question there are concerns about the bat, but when the return is just Gonzales, it's a no brainer.

Gonzales is 25 years old coming off of TJS. That may be the worst trade I've seen in a while

yeah, I would probably pick O'neil over Gonzales... but I still think a guy with a 30%+ K rate is not a great grab. especially since he has 1500+ ABs...

Davenport projects O'Neill as a .250/.315/.470 (.785 OPS) guy with slightly below average corner defense right now, and about 2 WAR.

Longenhagen has him as a FV 50 guy ( a legit 50, not MLB.com dumdum 50), and says "He projects as an average regular". That means 2 WAR.

Considering the Braves are getting negative WAR from their corner OFers...he would have been welcome in the Braves system.

    Odd trade for the Mariners.

Would the equivalent of Marco Gonzalez have been Drew Harrington for Atlanta?

I know the M's are looking for major league pieces, so Harrington would've never crossed into the discussion.

I don't think we have a comp....Lucas Sims might be the closest

The Mariners are all about trading potential for the safe pick. That's an interesting way to go....

Is Gonzales even the safe pick here? Seems like he has more risk and less upside.

It is a strange trade, but we got a guy with probably inflated numbers due to hitting in the PCL vs. a pitcher that is talented (despite injuries). Don't think it's really a strong win either way; Mike Hessman vs. Jamie Garcia ish.

That's why Braves could've never made this trade: they covet and collect post-TJS, so they're not about to give one away.

Morosi was told that the Brewers are only "in" if they could get a controllable starter. Since they were sniffing around on Julio, I'd at least entertain asking them if they were willing to do Brinson for him straight-up. They obviously aren't going to be able to move Braun at this point since the Dodgers don't want him and the Marlins are being sold, so they've got a pretty big logjam of ready or almost-ready guys. That's a pretty high ask for him, but maybe not awful in a 1 for 1 deal.

Shop Kemp and Adams for any bag of balls you can get to any AL teams this winter so you can plug Brinson in in LF to start next season, and be ready to make Markakis a pinch-hitter IF they decide to start Acuna's clock late next season. Go out and sign Lynn or Cobb to a 3 year deal to take Julio's rotation spot.

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

That is seriously bullish on Gonzales and bearish on O'Neill. O'Neill is a top 100 prospect by basically everyone, some have him a top 50 guy.

Agree on the bearish on O'Neill. Im not impressed with the Gabe Kabler physique. Guys that hit for power in the PCL don't really impress me. I want to see other things (def >1.4 wRC+). 30% k rate would give me some serious hesitation.

Gonzales at least can help them right away (possibly). Not that I love the trade either way.

I'm not saying either one will be anything, but in terms of pure value, it's pretty terrible.

Cameron said on his chat today that Verlander is untradeable with his contract. He basically has the same deal as Kemp with a vesting option making the deal one year longer than Kemp.

Anyone up for a Kemp and Verlander swap? Braves take on an extra 3 million a year and 20 million for 2020. They get a better player at a spot of need. They put SRod in LF and then in the offseason they can look at Dustin Peterson and Acuna.

I'm not sure the Tigers would do a pure dump like that. We'd likely have to throw in something else, but for that money I wouldn't add more than Harrington.
