Question to the older demographic here...

Obviously with no social media or internet back then, how were Nixon diehards back then when he was under investigation? Were they firmly supporting him like Trump supporters are now or was there skepticism or doubt amongst the Nixon faithful? Were they as loud in defending him then as what we are seeing now?

Mueller just hired 13 lawyers for the special counsel office, amongst them are money laundering and organized crime experts, as well as the guy that lead the Enron investigation. This could get ugly or interesting in the next few weeks/months.

As far as social media, PBS and NPR were brand new. All Things Considered and McNeil -Leher were reporting what no one else was.
NPR aired all of the Watergate Hearings so that was day time listening

In both cases the reporting of the Washington Post was and has been the gold standard
    .....

Bear in mind (D) controlled congress at that time so Grassley's break this morning could be game changing

The night of the Saturday Night Massacre was the first my bride introduced me to her womans health issues. We woke up the next morning to those newspaper headlines.
Unlike now, it wasn't even thought possible Nixon could / should or even would fire Cox. Sort of put the affair on a whole other plain

Funny how this week - even the hint of firing Mueller has had the same effect
    ......

    "older demographic " --- nice

This isn't an answer to your question, but I'm curious what role social media is actually playing here. It may make it more interesting for those of us in the peanut gallery but I'm pretty sure Mueller's team are focused on other things.

And we know that a significant segment of supporters on both sides are entirely fake anyway.

Jr. is doing his part on social media. But again, to what purpose?
