Weird GCL opener so far. They got stuck facing a 26-year-old who threw at AA/AAA last year in what looks to be a rehab start, and he threw six shutout innings with 10 Ks. Hard to be disappointed when the lineup is pretty much just 17/18 year olds.

Negret was actually back in the DSL lineup today and went 0-4. Yenci Pena went 2-3 with a walk.

As a rough reference, here's how other hyped international guys did in their first taste of rookie ball:

Miguel Cabrera: .260/.344/.352 in the GCL, 2 HR in 57 G

Miguel Sano: .291/.338/.466 in the GCL, 4 HR in 41 G

Vlad Guerrero, Jr: .271/.359/.449 in the Appy, 8 HR in 62 G


Of course, though minimally hyped, Albies tore it up his first year and Acuna performed similarly to Guerrero. So based on that, I'd expect middling to decent numbers without a ton of power showing up. If he does more than that, then watch out.
