    2017-2018 FA Power Rankings

MLBTR just posted their latest FA power rankings:

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/...ankings-4.html

For those wondering why the Kemp deal hurt, the Braves may have been in position to make a run at JD Martinez to play LF if they weren't already shackled to Kemp. It would have been nice to add a legit 3-4 WAR player to the OF. They probably wouldn't have gotten him, but now there is zero chance of adding an impact corner OFer until the 2019 season.

Will the Braves be interested in giving Mous an Ian Desmond contract? Something like 5/80 to 6/100? I'm not quite sure how I would feel about that. If they are going to splurge on a top FA this offseason, 3B is the obvious position to do it.

That's why if Freeman proves an adequate third baseman, you put Kemp at first and sign Martinez.

I don't watch much royals baseball but a quick look at moose's stats and I don't like that obp.

I still think they pull a trade...I just have no idea who is around.

The more I look at it the less I like any of these guys.

What I'd consider if we really think we are close is trying to get one of the vet starters who is having a down year on a high av deal. Like 25 million and a team option or two for 25 million. Basically colon plus Garcia money.

    Arrieta/colon/etc
    Julio
    Folty
    Newcombe
    Best of wisler, Blair, Simms

Look for best of allard soroka around the deadline.

I don't believe if ff at 3b so maybe you go Frazier. Maybe the yanks dump Headly. Maybe a blocked 3b for Red Sox or Rockies is available for non top 6 prospects. Maybe go some combo of rio/comargo/srod and see if demerite can obp over 350 in aaa till the al, star break

We should avoid signing everyone on that list unless they accept very short term deals. Certainly shouldn't be signing any that will cost draft picks. I would much rather spend 100 million signing all our young players to long term contracts.

I'd be ok with signing Moose for 4 years or less. I suspect he will have an offer for 5 years or more and we should not try to match that.

Solarte and Prado are probably available on the trade market to play 3rd.

OBP looks awful. So so D on a 30 y/o with an injury history and he can't get on base more than 310 in his prime? No thanks.

I have another no thanks deal.

This only works if you believe:
    1. There is no one worth money in FA
    2. Nobody out there you think you can acquire in trade that is a useful player but has a high salary
    3. You think the Rex Sox have impact prospects not named Devers or Groome

I know this is a crazy idea. But wanted to see where I was on the crazy scale.

    Braves trade: Adams, Kemp
Red Sox Trade: Hanley, Panda, plus prospects.

Kemp and Hanley are almost a wash for contacts. Kemp is a little less b/c of Dodger money. He's an upgrade for DH.
Panda is eating 2 years of 18.6 million plus a 5 million buy out.
Adams gives them a chance to potentially upgrade 1b and DH for cheap this year and next.

For that money would you be interested in
Travis-Seems to be a young FF type hitter (very good hitter but maybe not enough power for 1B). Boarderline top 100 guy. Some think he could play LF. Prob play LF better than Adams, Adams or Kemp.
Dalbec and Chavis are two bat options who could be close and could play 3B. Dalbec seems to more highly rated but Chavis is younger and doing better. Both blocked by a lot of guys in Boston plus Devers.
And we get a pitcher like Shaun Anderson or Shawaryn.

    So to propose I'd go:
    Travis-1B/LF depending on FF
Dalbec and Chavis-two options to go with Demerrite to see who can be 3B as early as next year
    Anderson.

Bought for about 45 million over 2.5 years. You could play Panda at 3B this year for all I care but likely you DFA. Hanley maybe you throw out in LF or 1B for this year and 18 and then maybe you DFA.

I know it's crazy but I just don't see us getting any impact bats another way. I can see the Sox wanting to free up room to go after Harper, Donaldson etc and I don't see us being able to do that.

I think all of those guys are going to get too much money for too many years and none will be worth it enough for what will end up being a bad, impossible to move contract.

If our D includes FF, Adams and Kemp we better hope our staff is getting 10+ Ks per night. Agree.

Not interested in Moose at all.

I really think the brass needs to call up Colorado and figure out a way to get McMahon. He is completely blocked there.

I doubt Colorado is going to view him as being blocked. They would stick him in RF or LF before they would just trade him because they already have a 3B.

He's playing 1B/2B currently. They're not going to be in any rush to trade him. But if they need pitching, I think a year from now we'll have a bunch of guys in the upper minors, hopefully pitching very well and raising their value. Soroka's stock has to have gone way up.

I hate the idea of that defense with a bunch of young pitchers coming up. They cannot roll with that next year. Can't do it.

Funny part is that Inciarte, Swanson and Albies could all be plus to plus plus guys in the middle. Flowers is ok. Then the corners are hot garbage.
