I'm cool with this. We need to figure out which guys are going to be on our bench come playoff time. I'd give BJ a start tomorrow.

Is this the first time Heyward has played center with Schafer in the lineup? Seems to be a tip-off there regarding the plan for the playoffs.

You mean, besides the later innings yesterday? When Gonzalez pulled Gattis for defensive purposes, he kept Heyward in CF, but slid Justin to LF and inserted Schafer at RF.

I'm not sure this lineup is a tip-off for anything. I believe the McCanns had a baby girl this morning, so he isn't available (at least to start).

Under-appreciated aspect of this season: Justin shaking off a history of mild-to-moderate injury problems and staying in the lineup just about every day. When paired with Freeman, who's been in there every damn day after going on the DL in April, the two have provided some much-needed stability in the middle of the order.

Kinda wish Betancourt would get to start a game or two.

don't get Janish at 2b at all. Uggla hasn't played enough to need to be rested, and EJohnson is at least a little better than Janish, isn't he?

Really can't see any use for Janish besides late inning D and emergency SS.

Need to win home field advantage and build some momentum going into the playoffs. I understand McCann being out with a new baby but there should not be more than 1 regular out per game (not counting the Uggla/EJ and BJ/Schaffer platoons) until the best record is no longer at stake. These guys can rest during the play-in wildcard game.

Screw home field advantage, we need to win to keep the Nats from taking the division. According to ESPN they very well could win 15 out of the next 8 games.

That's what most people don't realize. Yesterday was the hypothetical clinch celebration. Not the mathematical.

Simmons and CJ both needed a day off, oh well maybe tomorrow. Also, it seems Fredi really is going with Garcia over Wood for playoff rotation. That is a terrible idea but nothing surprises me with Fredi anymore. A couple games doesn't make Garcia a good pitcher. Garcia also owned Nats with O's earlier this year, but stunk against most everyone else. The Nats won't be in the playoffs. This is just more of Fredi's if he's a veteran he's a better option nonsense. If that wouldn't so no way a bum like Loe is even on this team.

I actually think we need wood out of the pen. I don't love the move but I don't hate it

If we need another lefty in the pen, try Maholm there. He can probably be effective as a lefty specialist. But whatever the case Garcia shouldn't even be in the discussion. I'd go with a three man rotation before considering Garcia.

Wood would dominate out of the pen and in a playoff series a relief pitcher could have more of an impact than your fourth starter. I think Garcia could give us a decent 5 innings. Its not his first rodeo.

Yea, you also thought Maholm was better than Huddy etc. So excuse me if that doesn't change my view of Garcia. Plus this talk about Garcia being better for us is ignoring that he also pitched well vs Nats with O's earlier this year (pitched a great game vs them in fact). But he was still terrible against most everyone else outside of lowly Miami and a few others.

This isn't Loe's first rodeo either, I guess we should have him pitch in playoffs too.

Gosh, I thought I read somewhere that he'd been watching his diet.

Maholm pitching against the Brewers this series isn't a good idea. I don't care if it's home or road, Maholm always gets hammered or at least loses to the Brewers. No team owns him like they do. I'd pitch Hale in his spot and move him back to first game vs Philly.

The Brewers are a good hitting team vs lefties generally speaking too.

It's so good to see Heyward leading off again, hopefully he'll have his timing and get hot in time for playoffs.

I hope Joey T gets more starts this week since we'll need him for post-season bench. He has to be cold as ice as little as he's been starting. I'd try to get him a few starts in a row if possible. I really don't think Reed Johnson is going to be ready for playoffs. He missed a lot of time and cannot start, so hard for him to get back going in such a short term. Plus if he cannot play the field he's not as much an option.
