I also forgot the media fearmongering created the drug crisis of the 80's. Drug use according to polls wasnt seen as a major issue in the 70's through 1984. Through Reagans propoganda campaign and his CIA flooding the streets with Cocaine they managed to make it seen as our biggest problem. There might have been a legitimate crack problem in the mid 80's but that doesnt excuse lumping all the other drugs into the problem.

From mid 1973 to 1984 drug use according to Gallup polls did not even register on their polls of "whats the biggest problem in America". By 1989 Gallup polls had 64% citing drig use as Americas biggest problem.

The trick is to convince you there is a problem and that they are the only ones who can solve it.

Something that’s gone very much under the radar for the last several minutes months has been Flynn’s cooperation. Mueller recently filed a memo asking for a sentencing hearing in November, indicating that he has everything he needs from Flynn.

I couldn’t even begin to guess at what relevant info Flynn has, other than that he was likely to have been central in the sanctions discussions. He was the first to flip, and I’ve always found it hard to believe that he was convinced to plead guilty and cooperate over a single charge of lying to investigators. I assume there’s a pretty big iceberg underneath the water. Likewise, I’m not sure Mueller would do a deal with Brother Pavel just so they could get more FARA convictions.

With Cohen also talking to Mueller the pace of the investigation has accelerated.

A couple things seem clear to me:

    1) None of Trump's lawyers and advisers have a full understanding of his legal exposure

    2) Trump is incapable of admitting to anyone including himself that he has done anything wrong

    3) if 1 and 2 above were not true he likely would have resigned by now because he is totally screwed

I think that’s about the most succinct summation possible. He’s lied to his lawyers because he is incapable of objectively recognizing and telling the truth. I think the trifecta of Flynn, Manafort, and Cohen probably have enough to tip the scales, but it’s ultimately a matter of how willing the Republicans are going to be to continue to carry water for him. I mean, it may be minutiae in retrospect, but I have always assumed that Ryan and Gowdy’s retirements were based, as much as anything else, on not wanting to be responsible for the ****-show that is inevitably going to ensue.

Ultimately, it’s going to come back to the guy, himself. Who he is. When it becomes clear that he’s lied to his lawyers about his exposure, it’s going to be worth asking them, and everyone who voted for him, supported him, or carried water for him...why? Why, when he’s made it manifestly clear who he is and will forever be? Why go to bat for this obvious ****heel?

that reckoning will be very interesting to watch..different people will deal with it in various...I do think there are honorable people working for him who have been serving out of a sense of patriotic duty...at the other end of the spectrum..well he has not attracted the best and the brightest...more like a collection of dim witted bottom dwellers

    Why, indeed?

It's as if people have decided that they would rather stand with the Devil himself than agree to live in a progressive, multi-cultural and quasi-socialistic America.

KT McFarland has “revised” her testimony that she did not discuss sanctions with Michael Flynn while at Mar-a-Lago during his string of conversations with Kislyak. That she’s not being charged, IMO, for making statements that (based on her unequivocal public denials) seem intentionally misleading, indicates that she’s probably spilling on the rest of the conversations at M-a-L that weekend.

The one thing I give the people around Trump some credit for is not spilling the beans under pressure. But Mueller has proven to be skillful and willing as far as ratcheting up the pressure and cracks are starting to appear all over the place.

I think it's holding up as well as the Manafortov joke

But seriously, I've been reading 300 pages about cracks and walls closing in... so maybe we'll finally reach the conclusion

Interesting detail (not 100% sure if this is correct), but the Vacancies Act kicks in if Rosenstein resigns but not if he is fired.

Implication: If he resigns, Trump can appoint any DOJ official who has been confirmed by the Senate as the acting deputy AG. If he is fired, the chain of command applies with Noel Francisco assuming Rosenstein's duties.

Pete Williams reporting Rosenstein on way to White House. Will not resign but rather force them to fire him.
