A possible answer is hinted at in this opening paragraph from a NY Times article the day after he was convicted:

I come back to the question: Why did Manafartov give this expensive private polling data to the Russians. What was his motivation. What did he think they would do with it.

And why did Kilimnik give Manafartov a "peace plan" for Ukraine? What was his motivation? What did he expect Manafartov to do with the peace plan?
Why not give him a box of cigars or jar of caviar instead?

Why would the Trump campaign try to start a conversation with Russia via the Trump tower meeting if there was already an establish line of communication?
Why would Stone reach out to Wikileaks to get information about e-mails if Trump campaign was already involved.
You love to focus on just one side but do not see the whole picture which is clear and that is what the Senate Intelligence committee just concluded on.

The Trump Tower meeting imo was an exploration on the part of the Russians to see if the Trump campaign wanted to play ball with them. And the answer they got back was a resounding yes.
With respect to WikiLeaks my thinking there is WikiLeaks was the shy party. They did not wish to be seen as being in direct communication with the campaign. They realize they have some legal exposure and that perhaps the best legal shield they have is the fiction that they function as some sort of journalistic enterprise. Openly coordinating with a campaign to weaponize emails stolen from an opposing campaign would blow that cover.
