Automatic weapons -- sometimes known as fully automatic, or machine guns -- fire continuously when the trigger is held down.

Two federal laws have essentially banned them in the United States.

One law in 1935 all but banned automatic weapons like the Tommy gun. And another in 1986 prohibited fully automatic weapons, except for pre-existing weapons that were grandfathered in.

Now, watch the video on this page - https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/452765...icture-gunman/

That was a fully automatic weapon. What gun control do you suggest in place of the existing ban on the weapon the shooter used?

I have been very clear over the years on what I think should be done.
Both incrementally and wish list clear

Well, I guess we should go back through your entire 8,237 posts to find what you said. Or you could just tell us what gun control law this guy would have followed, since he ignored the current one.

Should we do the same for the manufacturers of cars that are used to kill by drunk drivers?
Should we do the same for the refineries of gasoline used by an arsonist to start a fire?
Should we fine God if someone is beaten to death with a big stick? (incidentally, my Cherokee name is Walks With Big Stick)

I understand your frustration, but your solution is just a backdoor way of removing the 2nd Amendment right that all law abiding citizens have. That right is part of the Constitution for a reason, and that reason was to make sure there would have to be overwhelming consensus for it to ever be taken away.

There was more voter fraud than that in New Hampshire alone in the last election.

Really, though, that's just a collection of straw men.

The amount of vehicular deaths in America can and should be mitigated by sensible regulation.

Neither cars nor fire accelerants are specifically designed and marketed for the express purpose of efficiently and effectively killing human beings.

Regulating guns and gun ownership =/= banning guns. The ownership of lethal weapons has been understood differently and treated differently under the law at different times in American history. That it is considered static is based on a fiction, and one that emanates from a particular slice of American special interests.

Guns and gun ownership are already regulated. The murder weapon used in Las Vegas last night was illegal. My question was simple, tell us what gun control law this guy would have followed, since he ignored the current one?

You realize those places don't let you rent the gun for a weekend right? You shoot it there, on their range. And then you hand it back.

You would have had a better argument if you had brought up the 300,000 fully automatic weapons that were grandfathered in as legal in 1986, when purchase of new fully auto weapons was banned:

Yes, you can buy a machine gun

During the exchange between Lemon and Ferguson, Ferguson said "the majority of private citizens are not allowed to own full automatic weapons."

Steven Howard is a lawyer and firearms expert based in Lansing, Mich. Howard said the ban on machine guns is not quite as complete as Ferguson’s words might sound.

"Most people can buy machine guns in lots of states," Howard said. "But, and this is one of those classic big ‘buts,’ they have to get through a background check by FBI that is as thorough as if you are getting clearance to become a federal agent."

Howard said those checks can take up to six months. States such as California, Iowa and Kansas, ban private ownership under any circumstances. But in about half the country, including Florida and Texas, if you pay the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms $200 and have a clean record free of any history of domestic violence or a felony conviction, you can get yourself a machine gun legally.

However, Joseph Olson, recently retired as professor of law at Hamline University, and a former board member of the National Rifle Association, said it won’t be a new one.

"There was a freeze put on them in 1986," Olson said. "New Jersey representative (William) Hughes had an amendment that limited them to the ones that were registered at that time. There are a bit under 300,000 in circulation."

(I am going to eat some crow here. I knew that some of these were grandfathered in, but I was sure that the sale of those was banned, and I have based some of my arguments on that false certainty.)

    we'll see.

Take the profit out of weaponry.
    ..................

To your point on cars ----

In the 50's Ford offered seat belts as an option. By mid 60's they were standard -- I forget when it becamse illegal to ride in cars without wearing a seat belt.
    Child safety seats in cars
In the mid 60's public pressure and a book by Ralph Nader took a car off the road for safety
The late 60's emission standards were regulated into manufactured cars
