    I don't follow your logic...

Hahn making a mistake justifies Coppy making a mistake?

what are you talking about? you asked the question if we wanted you to quote everyone who said that. I'm not the one who brought it up, you did.

So do it. Or don't? Why ask the question if you won't follow through?

    Rhetorical questions....look them up.

You know perfectly well the usual pozzy Barves were so giddy they were creaming their pants.

You just popped up in this thread to argue with me. Are you also obsessed with me? Go join the club haha.

I remember there were some on the Sonny Gray bandwagon, but unlike Enscheff, I believe people have a right to say what they want without facing furious reprisals that insult their intelligence.

Some people are so quick to give up on Swanson. He needs to play every day whether here or in AAA but thinking he's a bust already is silly. Go look at Michael Young's career. In his rookie year he got 429 PAs, hit .249 with a .298 OBP and a .402 SLG. In his second year he got 633 PAs and hit .262 with a .308 OBP and a .382 SLG. He didn't break out until his third season when he hit .306 with a .339 OBP and a .446 SLG.

It took Young about a thousand plate appearances to really get it. Swanson currently has less than 500 major league PAs.

I tend to think the people that wanted Gray didn't necessarily want him for a stretch run this year.

Come to think of it, it was kind of a two-fer; a now-and-later move. I think there was a poster who thought the Braves could move Teheran and replace him with Gray and somehow win on both moves. I doubt that could happen, but given Beane's recent trade with the Nationals, I wonder what the price tag on Gray will be.

Gray is not a win now player to make a push, but more acquiring a guy who is controlled. If I am not mistaken, Cheff was in on Gray if the cost wasn't one of our top 5 or something like that.

This.... He was being viewed as a long term piece, not the basis for a stretch run this year.... Although he would likely have helped this year as well.

I think the thing we have to be careful about is the contender's premium that tends to inflate the price of major league players relative to prospects at the deadline. We should be making an offer for Gray (and Verlander if he is available). Just be careful not be caught up in a bidding war.

For the record, I'm not in on Gray at all. I really think he's going to have durability issues.

In response to nsacpi, I think we have the pieces to get Gray at a decent cost because of the depth of our system. A lot of the teams pursuing Gray won't want to surrender a top prospect, which would test their depth (where we would have an advantage). That said, I still don't think he's a good investment.

Another great idea. Pay the contender's premium during a year of non-contention.

If this prevents us from trading our best prospects and getting Swanson back in the lineup, thank God.

one of these is likely to happen.

sadly that doesn't bode well for our future if we have to worry about playing well whether or not we trade our best prospects and play Swanson full time.

Pretty much where I'm at as well. Not a huge Gray fan.

I think the Braves realize Julio may have issues at Suntrust, and may want to replace him with a pitcher that won't. I think that's a real pie in the sky strategy, but hey we ought to try.
