Yeah I know. What he and Albies did as 17 years olds in the Appalachian League is just very special. Lots of 17 year olds do well in the DSL and GCL. But the Appalachian League has a lot of college players, some of them drafted as seniors, some of them with several years in pro ball. To have a kid who would be a high school junior more than hold his own in that league is pretty special. Doesn't happen much and is a very good indicator of him having some special talent.

Yep. I only know about Acuna because of nsacpi being the only one to mention him in a thread.

Shoot what Albies and Acuna have done at every level at their age is simply remarkable. Hard to believe how little they signed for.

    1) Soroka
    2) Gohara
    3) Wright
    4) Allard
    5) Anderson

Those are the Big 5. Below them are guys who I think are more likely to end up as relievers in the majors but in most cases should continue to get looks as starters for now.

    6) Newcomb
    7) Sims
    8) Toussaint
    9) Wentz
    10) Fried
    11) Weigel
I agree with that five. Gohara and Soroka are dominating. Hard not to put them on top right now given both their performance and what the scouts are saying.

Bryse Wilson from Orange High in Hillsborough looks like he's the next one in line to get the big press and possibly make it a big 6.

Sims is having an unreal year. Is the knock on him the fly balls ratio? The dude has been untouchable the last month it looks like. Best year of his career.

You take the early success and then pile on top of that their very rapid advancement after their age 17 seasons and it is easy to get spoiled and forget how amazing their progress has been. I think those two have set a very high benchmark against which to compare Maitan. I'll be very interested to see how Maitan's Danville numbers compare to theirs. Right now Maitan has a .744 OPS in 7 games. Acuna had an .851 OPS in Danville and Albies turned in an .881 OPS.

I hadn't really noticed until I read your post then looked up his statistics. I can't believe he's trimmed his walk rate under 3.0

That's always been a huge issue for him. Unfortunately, the homers have been high this year (and he's extreme fly all pitcher, which is a bad combo). If he can learn to suppress those, then we might have a solid starter on our hands.

He claims he was never on Demeritte's bandwagon but I find that hard to believe.

Home run per fly ball will normalize some. It is a bit like BABIP. Sims will tend to be high, but I think his numbers will come down whatever level he pitches at next.

Odds are both Sims and Newcomb will end up in the pen. It would be yuge if one let alone both developed into a major league starter.

I liked TD a lot. When I saw him at Mississippi earlier this year, he was raking. Hard to believe he's fell this hard. Almost makes me wonder if he's dealing with some sort of injury

Yup, nsacpi was pimping Acuna before any prospect guy knew who he was.

Same with Pache. He pointed him out, then a few months later Longenhagen pegged him as a Top 105 guy.

I think we're seeing this year Pache is not quite up there with Albies and Acuna. That's not really a knock. Its just that those two are so exceptional.

I think a lot of Pache's value is his otherworldly CF defense, which won't show up in the numbers.

Yeah. I've seen the same reports. The bat looks a little iffy, but he still very young.

Maitan about had his 2nd HR yesterday. Hit it to the warning track in center.

Has hit in all 7 Appy League games and his average is at .300.
