GDT 8/3: Braves (Newk) vs Dodgers (Wood)

Didn't see a game day thread. Figured I'd start one. Predicting a yuge night from Newk and Ozzie

Newcomb should be a solid #2 or #3 starter. Add in Folty and maybe Teheran and the rotation looks good going forward. Gonna have a lot of decisions next year when Soroka, Gohara, Wright, and Allard are knocking on the door. That's why I see a big trade coming in the offseason.

Will Albies get a hit in august?

I'm not worried about him, but this isn't the start I wanted to see

I think Newcomb looks fine aside from the control.

At some point you'd like one of the kids to perform better than a back half of the rotation starter, but I could see Newcomb or Folty turning the corner.

Albies is putting the bat on the ball which is a good sign. His hit tool has always been excellent so he should be fine.

Yeah he has to learn to keep the pitch count down.

Not trying to defend Newcomb's wildness but 2 of his 3 walks were caused by bad calls by the ump.

I don't know if Newcomb will or won't be good, but man it is miserable to watch him pitch.

He's not fun to watch and he's had a long time to figure out control. He's not 21 or 22. Just man up and stop pitching scared to righties.

Seventy-two pitches through three innings. Well, I suppose that's only a 216-pitch pace for the CG.

His strikes seem to be quality pitches; I don't know why he seems so afraid to pound the strike zone. He did that in the first inning and only threw about 10 pitches. He's now managed to get his count in the 70s with one out in the fourth.
