Another thing to consider here - given the salary dumps (Garcia and Rodriguez), they could be positioning themselves to jettison both Dickey and Johnson. Both have apparently cleared waivers by now, and there is the McCauley mention that they'd consider Fried for a spot start.
They obviously wouldn't get much in return for R. A. or Jim either, but they're obviously trying to unload money for some reason and now can trade either (or both) regardless of return.
*** Don't personally think that has anything to do with Verlander - will be interesting to eventually find out what's behind all the movement though.
