Braves need to give him a spot in the rotation next year.

Rileys development is huge for the braves. Prevents you from spending big on a 4 year third baseman for at least a year.

He spent a few weeks as a reliever for the big club. He's probably not stretched out.

Touki with 6 walks over 4 innings. I'm glad he's still young.

How far off is Austin Riley from being a top 100 prospect?

Far off. He's a nice prospect, but he offers plus power and no other above average tools.

For the year coming into this game he was hitting .266 with an OPS of .749, I think it's safe to say not particularly close. A hot streak in 140ish ABs at AA doesn't overshadow his subpar hitting at high A in just over 300 ABs, or his average scouting grades. The most positive thing to me with him is hearing that his defense seems solid at 3B this year, gives him a decent shot to stick if he can make enough contact (which I have serious doubts about).

He's been on an innings limit anyway since coming back from the DL. He was called up to the major leagues due to this but never pitched...and stuff like this shows me there is a disconnect between Brian and the FO. One thinks play the kids the other thinks wins.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

His walk and K percentage has taken a nice turn this year and he has always performed better than the league at a younger than league average age.

considering the reports on his defense have improved I think we have underrated him. I get that he only has around 160 AB's after tonight but thats also with about a 8.5% walk rate and a 23.5% K rate with decent power numbers all at 20 years of age. I don't think we should be shocked he is doing well either offensively. He has basically been good since he was drafted.

There is more evidence to say what he is doing now is closer to his norm than a poor performance to start the year at A+.

I'm not saying he is a top 100 prospect but I think he has somehow flown under the radar and might be ready to pop out real soon.

He had double the ABs at A+ that he has at AA right now, what you just said makes no sense at all. He seems to be a strong closer, as his second half numbers have been solid the past two years. But he'll need to show a full year of solid performance before I can take him seriously as a prospect, otherwise he looks like a Rio Ruiz AAAA type player to me. Hopefully he can take take his strong performance in AA so far and turn it into a strong start in AAA though, it would be nice to have a stopgap 3B for a while.

Of course you do. you said the exact same thing about TD. You'll continue to say the same thing about every prospect that has a good month. Eventually you'll be right if you make claims like this about every single prospect.

Riley isn't even in the discussion for the Top 100.

Riley entered the year as a 40 FV player. I wouldn't be opposed to him being bumped to a 45 FV player in the offseason. His good work at AA likely earns him that. A 45 FV prospect is somewhere in the top 150-200 range. Riley is likely going to be on the back end of that. So yeah he's a ways off.

You're probably right. Nice he is even that close at his age.

Just hoping he continues his good work at AA.
