The braintrust just talked about how the Rockies were good because Blackmon has 4 sac bunts, because you obviously want a guy with 30 HRs to bunt.
Then Blackmon goes deep.
That's why guys don't bunt, Joe.

I swear...our bull pen. Just when you think a guy has turned the corner...right back to square one.
Viz picked the wrong night to channel his inner JJ, I'm afraid.
And Kemp is STILL out there in LF despite batting in the 8th. It's unreal the stupidity of the entire Braves management.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.
Swanson and ff playing well. That makes me happy
Wouldn't shock me if they try to get both guys extended this off season.
I like viz. I think he's good. Losing games probably helps at this pt.
I agree to a point. You don't want a guy to regress because he's bored. Swanson made no sense...Oz could have stayed down, but what sense would it make knowing he's penciled in for starting day next year. Acuna is one that I really wish we could save that year of control, but how do you keep a guy down doing what he is doing?
Maybe you move Kemp to the AL, eat half his contract and gain say $12 mil over two years. That gains you "some" of that lost year cash back.
I agree if a guy earns it, you could be creating ill will by keeping him down. In saying that, Acuna is really the only guy that is forcing their hand in that way.
Viz is an excellent set up man and a valuable reliever. I don't think he's suited for the closer role though.
Come on man, you respond with the one of the few examples where the guy didn't sign a remarkably super team friendly extension (at the time he signed that contract 30+ mil a season was more fair market value rather than a remarkably team friendly extension, though of course these days it looks like a super bargain) and used the best player in baseball to boot.
Lets look at Simba, who has been worth 25 mil the past two seasons and is worth over 36 mil on the season thus far. He signed away two FA seasons for 13 mil and 15 mil respectively, so you are looking at between 12-25ish mil in surplus value in each of those two years most likely, depending on whether his offensive improvement is real. That's the sort of thing I'm talking about. You can try and pretend the players are robots if you like, but if they think the FO sucks and are pissed off at them you can forget getting any sort of cheap extensions. And as a team on the lower end of the payroll spectrum we most definitely should be following the Tampa model and trying to do that as much as possible.
Matt Adams
Actually it's pretty easy, you just let them spend a normal amount of time at each level. There are quite a few top prospects that destroyed levels like Acuna has this year, but teams don't typically promote them as aggressively as the Braves have Acuna this year. It's not like Acuna was putting up amazing numbers at A+ when promoted from there. Acuna has obviously justified the promotions and destroyed AA and AAA, but he could have easily been setup to start the season in AAA next year if the Braves had promoted him more evenly and normally.

Using Trout as the example is maybe not the way to go for salary any more than it is performance. Big outlier.
To be honest, I'm not sure that the angels didnt design his deal around building good feelings because I think they probably paid more for his arb seasons than he might have gotten for the honor of getting some 30 million dollar seasons. That's why my question was whether his extension was smart. I guess he was already playing at an MVP level so why not pay him fairly.
But I don't guess you want to try and tell willie mays he isn't worth too much.
At this point I'm not sure I'd even want to extend Dansby. He has more to prove imo.
