MONDAY MINORS THREAD 9/4: And so it ends ...

There is more than one way to rate a farm system, obviously. Was told yesterday that the Braves and White Sox -- who were named as having the two best -- had the two worst overall won-lost records in 2017. I can buy that with both Mississippi and Florida losing 80 games. The Braves have zero teams playing for postseason honors this year.

Another, certainly more entertaining, way of measuring a farm system's success is that of the Minnesota Twins. With Rochester's pennant race going down to the wire, it stands between the Twins having all five of their principal farm clubs making the playoffs and having "only" four.
    Their records: FWIW:
Rochester (AAA) 79-62, eliminated from second half, but in tie for expanded IL playoffs going into today
Chattanooga (AA) 90-49, wins both halves, most wins since 1992
Fort Myers (Adv. A) 75-60 (manager of the year Doug Mienkiewicz won that award in three of his last four seasons in two different leagues. I so wanted the Braves to consider him.
    Cedar Rapids (A) 75-64
    Elizabethton (Rookie) 41-27

Their farm system is loaded with good hitters and some great bullpen arms. Injuries have derailed their last two No. 1 picks, however.

Kudos to Tyler Pike. He's 0-9 at Mississippi with a .228 BAA.

so, kevin maitan didn't exactly impress on the stat sheet. are there whispers of concern coming from danville or is everyone still as excited as ever about his "potential"?

making no judgment here, so don't yell at me for "giving up" on a 17 year old.

I'm not going to worry about it a lot. He advanced a level in his first year stateside. He's struggled. Time to see what he does with an offseason to think about it.

They were over .500 in both halfs. That seems fine.

It's silly to say Maitan was anything other than disappointing. I still wouldn't worry about him long term...yet.

His Danville time was certainly but in Florida he was pretty much as advertised. When he got hurt he could barely run but played a decent ss. My only concern was his maturity physically. He's still got baby fat though. Next year will be interesting.

Was probably much more important that that team won together because of who the players were - was a springboard for many of them to take steps forward and be pushed, and if you look at the players from that team who were, almost all had pretty successful 2017 seasons...

Soroka, Allard, Acuna, Riley, Touki, and Fried all took pretty significant steps forward.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

You haven't figured it out yet? If they win it's the best thing ever and a sign of great things to come. If they lose it's no big deal.

    Austin Riley at it again.

    2 for 2 with a double and 3 RBI's. Batting 316 now in AA with a OPS > .9

I would say yes, but we are starting to get to a log jam in the uppers. I'd slow him down and do a level a year.

But they'll probably do some blockbuster trade and open up all kinds of room or maybe deal him.

But right now we have to figure out starter/reliever/not good for Blair, Wisler, Newcombe, Sims, Fried, Gohara and Sanchez who all have to be on the 40 man. Then we have Allard, Soroka and Wright who should be knocking on the door.

I don't think the Braves are up at night thinking about Blair/Wisler/Sanchez right now. Sims is close to that and I just don't think he is ever going to get the opportunity as I believe Fried will be one of the 5 staters next season.

What I'd like to see happen at this point is make 2018 a complete 'see what we have' year. Teheran/Folty/Newk/Fried/Sims and then if Sims falters early you have Gohara ready to go (also gains control over arb years which is a plus). Just say goodbye to Dickey and thank him for his year of service.

My assumption is that Sims is going to fail so out of Teheran/Folty/Newk you have to figure out who is going to be moved for the next wave of Allard/Wright/Soroka. Best case scenario is Folty is absolutely lights out and you have some team offering a prospect package to replenish the farm after having all these promotions. At that point you sub the guy doing the best.

    .390 BABIP at AA.

It's literally the same thing over and over every time a prospect has a good month.
