    Luiz Gohara debut numbers

The things that matter much more than the box score. He averaged 96.4 with the fastball. Got swings and misses on 16.9% of pitches and allowed a lot of weak contact. We know he was squeezed quite a bit.

Anyway, he's got the best stuff on the staff and I really believe he's our best current starter. The results will show that over the next few starts.

I didn't get to see the game but he looked great in what little video I have seen. He just looks like a potential stud, and we haven't seen that in a while.

I have read or heard that he was squeezed in several places now. Was it really that blatant?

Yes, he split the plate a few times right down the middle with his fastball several times that were called balls. That extended ABs. He also threw some great 3-2 pitches where he didn't call or they didn't chase. He's not wild. I think he will mature into above average command.

In short, yes, it was bad. We were complaining about the low strike in the game thread. The called strike heat map from last night shows the entire lower edge of the zone filled with cStrike% at 50% or lower:

Compare to a zone like the one Teheran typically enjoys, where the bottom is filled with numbers in the 70%-80% range:

I think Gohara would have benefited greatly from having Flowers behind the plate.

His command was iffy, but he overwhelmed a few really good hitters. Considering the context, I don't think it's fair to read anything more than that into start.

... besides the body. He looks like he's 40.

Gohara's walk numbers will improve once he moves up the ladder and the umpires get better.

Eric Gregg is smiling on the other side of that ladder.
