    The Vietnam War on PBS

Anyone watching this? The first episode looks like Ken Burns has done it again.

    Vietnam War (Ken Burns Documentary)

Anyone else been watching this? Fascinating stuff. I had no idea we assisted Ho Chi Minh push out the Japanese and help liberate Vietnam, in the same way we assisted Bin Laden in Afghanistan push out the Soviets. Both ended up becoming our political enemies of war. Crazy how history repeats itself like that.

From the doc, "Ho Chi Minh began to refer to his followers as The Viet-American Army". Around 1948?

It's impossible to deny what a great leader Ho Chi Minh was and that his only goal throughout was the liberation of his people from colonial rule.

"All men are created equal and they are endowed by their created with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Ho Chi Minh

"Do not be blinded by the issue of communism." Ho Chi Minh to President Truman

It might have been intercepted by the CIA. The cable/letters were classified and held by the CIA until they were revealed later on I think. I'll check back again in the first episode.

edit: Weren't the letters actually intended for FDR but weren't given to Truman?

Yes, I believe they said the CIA, but I mean more specifically inside the CIA. Were they being manipulated by other outside forces?

The PBS App has four different versions of The Vietnam War.

There's the broadcast version, a Spanish version, a Vietnamese version and an unedited version.

And there's already been several documentaries of the Vietnam War. This one with Walter Cronkite is really good and you can watch it free on youtube.
