    Stanton

    58 & 59.

Do not think his contract is under water. And do not think the Marlins will be looking to kick in anything to move him this off-season.

The Marlins need to trade him sooner or later. There is no way to rebuild on less they trade Yelich and Ozuna. Hopefully he breaks the record.

The 14.5 million they are paying him this year is a steal. The 128 million he is owed from age 34 to 38 is probably going to be underwater. I think the marlins can trade him without kicking any money in but I wouldn't expect a great return.

If the Marlin would take neck and Kemp I would throw in Allard. I think the Braves can spare a LH pitcher.

Watch what Justin Upton does regarding opting out. It isn't an exact parallel to what Stanton's decision will be. But it will be instructive nonetheless.

My guess is they trade Ozuna this off-season. But not Stanton. The sales price has some serious losses baked in for the next couple seasons. So I don't think the new ownership is under the gun to gut the team. They will trade Ozuna for a pitcher or two.

It is one way we could go. I've become convinced the FO will make one big trade this off-season. Could be for a hitter like Ozuna. More likely a pitcher like Archer or Fulmer.

Either one of those will probably cost Albies and much more.

Wonder if acuna can man cf for Atlanta. That would allow us to use inciarte as a big trade piece

I think we can get Archer for something along these lines: Gohara, Folty and Wentz. Ozuna will cost less since he is under contractual control for only 2 more years.

I figured archer/fulmer would be more expensive. I'm terrible with evaluating trade value though

I would open with an offer of Newcomb, Teheran and Wilson for Archer. That might get him but more likely a bit more will be needed.

I wouldnt trade for Fulmer or Archer. Given the cost, but do agree we'll make a big move this winter.

I see Stanton as this generations Reggie Jackson. Reggie stayed at an all-star level through his age 35 season. I see Stanton being able to do the same thing and then tailing off in his late 30's like so many do. If Stanton were to follow the same path then you get amazing production for all but two years of his contract. That's assuming he doesn't opt out. If the Marlins would take salary relief over a horde of prospects I would do the deal if I was in my contention window.

How are you projecting clean health and a lack of major decline on a player who has been hurt and fairly inconsistent in his prime?

Health is one thing that nobody can predict. His groin injury last year is the only I would consider an injury prone player to have but can happen to anybody. Like the Heyward injury prone talk of years past I don't buy missing time due to getting hit in the face and whatnot being indicative of a player missing time in the future. Things like that happenand it's unfortunate.

As far as being inconsistent goes. I'm going to go ahead and call 2016 something we should't expect going forward.

    WRC+ by year

    2011: 141
    2012: 158
    2013: 137
    2014: 161
    2015: 155
    2016: 119
    2017: 158

In the game of baseball that seems fairly consistent to me.

If the Braves are really going to be a 150 to 175 million payroll team I think the FO should try to get him even though the last few years of contract may not be so good. Stanton and Freddie in the middle of the order for the next few years would be exciting. Imagine how may homers Stanton would hit with Kemp protecting him

The thing that has always impressed me about Stanton is that for a power hitter with a big swing, he seems able to make adjustments depending upon the game situation and the count. His power stats may decline over time, but I don't think his OBP will. A decline in power would certainly erode his value, but I don't think he'd be -- using MFII's term -- an SVOD.

Good point about my boy, kemp. Not sure where we work his protection in the lineup though with acuna burning down the minors
