But he can almost beat out those two-hoppers to the right side.

A shame he got hit in the face. Hasn't been the same since and only getting worse.

This must have been Maddon's favorite song from the mid-1960s. I hope everyone here who dumped on Fredi for his bonehead decision does the same on Maddon here.

The reasoning was that Davis threw 44 pitches on Thursday and wasn't available to pitch more than 1 inning. If Maddon used him for 1 out in the 9th he wasn't going to bring him out again in the 10th after letting him sit for a half inning. He needed Lackey to get 1 out, then would have used Davis to get 3 outs in the 10th.

To me, the biggest mistake he made was not getting Schwarber or Happ an AB against Morrow or Jansen. Almora had no business taking PAs against those RHed pitchers.

Don't remember Charlie Morton ever throwing 99 MPH when he was with us.

Astros signed Morton to almost exactly the same contract the Braves gave Dickey.

Let that sink in a bit.

Helps when you use analytics, which the Braves mostly scoff at. I hate the Dodgers but I wanted Dodgers-Astros from the start, I want to see Joe Simpson, Chip Caray, and the old guard's heads spinning. The teams are very talented, but they use analytics to help them even more.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

They also built around position prospects.

I don't think there was any indication he would start striking out 10 per nine. He got the contract he did because he's historically been a 1 to 1.5 WAR pitcher. Sometimes you get lightning in a bottle. Maybe the Astros knew something nobody else did like the Braves did with Gohara.

If you're hoping to catch lightning in a bottle do you sign a 40 year old or a 33 year old?

I don't necessarily think the Braves were trying to find that guy in 2017. Also for the same money would you rather play for the Astros or Braves right now?

I want this to be the reason but something is telling me this was always going to be Heywards career. He is just a terrible hitter.
