As someone who's never been engaged, I've always wondered how the sex is the night after a proposal.

These are the things I think about.

The real question is if Correa would have proposed had they lost.

Yup. He got paid like the 1+ WAR pitcher he has been his entire career. Astros apparently tweaked something with him and got lightning in bottle this year. Similar to how the Braves got a random 4.5 WAR season out of Jaret Wright where he never had a season half as good as that in his career before or after. These things just happen.

    So happy the Astros won!

Now, let's hurry up and get back to Braves baseball.

I think the question is why use Gattis there. The RH/LH switch makes sense, but you're up 4 runs and Gattis' career numbers against Kershaw aren't eye-popping, so why not hold onto him in case there's a higher leverage situation. I also get that Maybin is a slightly better defensive player than Springer in CF and Reddick overall, so the OF gets a little better there. My only comment there is that if Cameron Maybin is your defensive replacement, you probably need to re-think your roster.

Great for Houston. My daughter's boyfriend is from Houston and he's happy. Plus, the city needed it. Great story and a good team. Interesting series.

I was one of the few on the old board that wasn't particularly excited with the McLouth deal. Classic now-for-later, but I thought McLouth was overrated (even without the concussion issue). That said, I never thought Morton would have a season like the one he just had at the age he had it. As you say here, sometimes a pitcher--even one in his 30s--has a great season no one expects. Curious to see how he pitches going forward. It's always great to see this happen to someone who has stuck with it.

Now I’m revisiting old playoff series wondering what if Bobby didn’t leave his horses in the game too long then maybe...

We had some pretty weak bullpens.

A lot can be learned about pitcher usage by smart teams from these playoffs. Last year we saw the Indians more or less invent "bullpenning" as a playoff strategy. This year we saw a few teams allow the pendulum to swing a little too far in that direction and get burned by exhausted BPs.

Next year smart teams should be delegating more low leverage outs to their lesser BP arms in an effort to save their elite BP arms a bit for later in the series. Rather than playing Game 1 as is it were Game 7, they should start playing it like it's Game 1.

as a corollary I think it makes sense strategically to improve the quality of the low leverage arms
