I don't see how you can be good and score 2 runs more than your opponent in 131 games

They already have, and the Phillies couldn't do **** with it.

Doesn't mean things can't change, though. It's still a close race with a lot of baseball left.

You can literally stop looking when you get to Chris Johnson though.

i wonder if the twins would part with mitch garver in the offseason. could be another late blooming type. looks solid defensively and has good power.

I would ask about Eddie Rosario first. If we go the trade route, he would be a guy that I'd be pretty keen on. Good lefty bat with some pop.

maybe get both of them. think we'd have to give up a significant pitcher for rosario, tho.

Max Kepler has been killed by a low BABIP this year. I like him too.

Other candidates I would like to see AA enquire about: Joc Pederson and Ian Happ.

Muk is also worth keeping in the mix.

The free agents (Harper and Pollock) I'm less interested in. Not because they are bad players. But because they are free agents. I'd rather stay away from premium free agents. Mid level free agents are ok, but I don't see one who I would want holding down a corner outfield spot. There are some (Cabrera and Escobar) who can help improve our infield depth and probably at a reasonable price.

Pretty sure I saw where he was one of the worst pitch framers in the league, though. With our young pitching, that isn't a recipe for success, imo.

I want to see Grandal and Flowers team up with this young pitching staff.

Are the Braves going to spend $100M on catching this off season? Probably not, but that's my dream scenario.

Apparently I haven't yet learned how stupid it is to give 30 year old catchers big money...

List of FA catchers with 1000+ samples in 2018 and a positive framing score:

Grandal - at least 5/80, probably more
Flowers - $5M+ per season, I would like to see him back
Maldonado - defense only guy, decent backup if they splurge on Grandal
Mathis - defense only guy, decent backup if they splurge on Grandal

Stewart is an excellent 3rd catcher, and I hope the Braves find a way to hold onto him.

I think we'll continue to bring in veteran mid-level catchers (like Flowers and Suzuki though not necessarily those two) on short-term deals until Contreras is ready. Of course, Contreras himself is not a sure thing. But the idea of giving a big contract to a veteran catcher doesn't make sense.

I added a couple good framer names to my post that I would like to see. Flowers plus one of Maldonado/Mathis with Stewart as the #3 wouldn't be half bad catching setup for a team relying on a flock of young developing pitchers.

How do McCann and Lucroy score on framing these days. I know they both used to get high marks in that department.

Edit: I see neither has done well in that department this year.

Lucroy is a mystery, and the main reason I should finally be against 30 year old catchers signed to huge deals.

However, I would still like to see Grandal with the Braves. Problem is, everything I like about Grandal is exactly what everyone liked about Lucroy and Martin when they were about to be FAs.

Hopefully AA is smarter than me and goes the conservative route at the catcher position.
