I’m really curious about Allard’s stuff, as well, but I think—for the team’s grand scheme—it ultimately makes more sense to keep giving Fried shots this year, if they believe they’ve guided him towards necessary tweaks to his arsenal.

I’m also going to hold to the notion I floated in another thread—based in pure speculation and sans any real evidence—that the organization has Allard working on something, given his recent uptick in k-rate.

It’d be a huge boost if he’s figured something out. I think Wisler’s enough coverage for the Teheran/Sanchez back-end, but the team could really use a third good starter, even when McCarthy returns and even if McCarthy starts performing closer to his xFIP.

Fried is clearly an MLB arm, so I don't care at all about his AAA stats. He should be succeeding at AAA.

All that matters is the development of his sinker, and that can't be gauged by looking at AAA stats. We need to see statcast data at the MLB level. That sinker is the difference between him being a legit #3, or just another AAAA/swingman arm.

Almost like clockwork, it didn't take long for Kemp to crater. After peaking with a .353 BA and a .983 OPS on June 6, he's batting a whopping .155 with a .533 OPS in the 18 games since. fWAR down to 1.5.

Neck meanwhile keeps churning right along.

Did he have a minor injury? That's usually the culprit.

Sometimes we do call these things slumps though.

Jim Bowden’s recommendations for contending NL teams

Braves get: Cole Hamels and Keone Kela
Rangers get: Touki Toussaint, Christian Pache, Bryse Wilson, PTBAL

Phillies get: Manny Machado and Zach Britton
O’s get: JP Crawford, Adonis Medina, Cole Irvin, Connor Seabold

Sorry that’s too much for Hamels. I pass

Is there any mystery as to why Bowden is no longer a GM? That's an absurd package for the ghost of Cole Hamels.

I wouldn’t trade one of those players for Hamels, much less all three, especially if there’s no cash coming back.

It really irritates me to see teams decide to do the rebuild/not rebuild tap dance.

Saw an interview with the Mets GM who said that they were willing to discuss trading anyone even deGrom and Syndergaard but that they were NOT rebuilding.

    WHAT?

If you aren't rebuilding then no way can you justify trading those two guys.

If you ARE rebuilding then no way can you justify keeping those two guys.

It's obvious that, short of a massive spend this offseason for FA, the Mets are in big trouble. Their best position players, and they aren't that great, are old or hurt. Their best young position prospects don't look like they will develop into much, with Nimmo being the best of a bad lot (he may actually be pretty good but I'm not sold yet).

Their pitching, WITH the two aces, isn't in that bad of shape.

It's pretty clear: either spend the money in the offseason to fix your position player holes OR rebuild and max out on your best assets. One thing is for sure. Their minor league system sucks right now.

The problem for the Mets is their hometown. It's hard to do admit to rebuilding when you have the Yankees across the East River from you. There is a competition there for fans.

Meanwhile, the Yankees essentially rebuilt themselves without really doing it. Suddenly they have more young players than old.
