I was not one who was against letting Heyward go. I was in favor of it. Interesting article on Heyward's decline since leaving the Braves.

Jason Heyward’s struggles since joining the Cubs have almost reached the point of historical oddity, as “this type of production drop during a player’s prime is nearly unprecedented, especially when injuries aren’t a factor,” The Athletic’s Sahadev Sharma writes (subscription required). Heyward has just a .243/.315/.353 slash line over 1073 PA for Chicago, as opposed to the .268/.353/.431 he posted in 3429 PA with the Braves and Cardinals over his first six seasons. Sharma cites a few other players who went through similarly sudden early declines, and only former Dodgers and Expos catcher Ron Fairly was able to entirely rebound and again become a productive hitter. Still, Heyward has been working with new hitting coach Chili Davis and the Cubs are still hopeful that he can regain some of his old stroke.

If the cubs wanted to eat 3/4 of his deal I'd still take him back.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him man right field... Acuna, Inciarte and Heyward would be a LEGIT outfield... and we've seen a lot of success for him in Atlanta.

    BUT... it likely won't happen.

    Cards extend DeJong...

Hope AA's paying attention and gets all over Albies' and Acuna's reps soon.

    Details of DeJong's extension: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/...term-deal.html

    "DeJong will receive a $1MM signing bonus and $1MM salary this year. Thereafter, he’ll receive $1.5MM (2019 and 2020), $4MM (2021), $6MM (2022), and $9MM (2023). The first option comes with a $2MM buyout, the second a $1MM buyout."

I would love to see Albies inked to a similar deal this month.

Borass now hinting that Moustakas may wait until draft pick compensation is no longer attached before he signs.

Not sure how much of a difference that's going to make at this point - the teams that were fits that went ahead and filled their holes still won't have holes. Maybe Baltimore or Toronto gets involved at that point if they trade Machado or Donaldson at the deadline, but not sure where the other fits could be. Frazier will still be with the Mutts, Cozart will still be in Anaheim, Andujar and Riley would have gotten another half-season of AAA ABs by then.

Possible injury to a contenders 3B could open things up as well. Might be a ploy to prod KC back to the table.

Conincidentally, the Braves could use a SP, a closer, a LF, and a 3B. Let's make it happen, Boras.

Boras said Moose may wait until after the draft to sign so the team that signs him won’t have to give up the pick

Royals are making some sneaky good value moves late this offseason.

I’d be annoyed they are not getting the draft pick and will be slightly better and finish with a better record as well.
